Unable to set port on Android app

I am not able to use port 80 for my server. I have all that under control with alternate ports, however I am unable to include a port number in the server settings in the Android app. If I add something like ":8080" or ":4040", I get an error message saying to enter a valid URL and it throws away anything I had tried to enter.

Thanks for any help!

This does not appear to work with subsonic.org addressing. If you enter your IP address + the port number, it should work.

e.g. http://185.215.36.24:8080

No, that will not work. That's the problem. Specifying a port in the Android app. is simply not allowed by the software. It doesn't recognize the syntax.

Thanks anyway!

Go to the Android app.
On the opening screen select Settings
Select one of the server definitions to edit
Enter Any name you like in the Name section.
For server address enter http://98.117.185.5:8083
Username guest
Password guest

Tap Test connection

Then tell me it doesn't work.

If you use the xxxxx.subsonic.org address you unlock when you donate, you don't need to include a port number.

We know all that. This info is for those who want to access multiple server instances.

Only trying to be helpful. Show me where it says that what you say is what jboothco is trying to do? The only info he or she provides is that they cannot use port 80, and adding :xxxx to the address does not work.

Sorry, wrong thread. The issue here was specifying the port in the Android player and how to do it. I've done that so I can connect to all the servers on my network.

OK, I got it working...but it DIDN'T work...honest! :-)
I think I know what happened. I think the Swype app on my Droid X was inserting a space somewhere and that was causing the invalid URL error. The proportional font makes it tough to see a space on such a small screen. I happened to turn off Swype today and when I tried it tonight it worked perfect.
Sorry for the trouble report, but I guess it is a warning to maybe beware that Swype can sometimes cause problems.

Thanks to all who responded!

Since voice commands/input works so well, I gave up swype, and haven't missed it at all! :)

The Devil is always in the details. Glad to hear you got it working.

I never used SWYPE. I agree voice input is way cool good. My EVO is completly stock, latest OTA, and I love it. I get a kick out of reading XDA where all the modders are trying to figure out what isn't working.

I'm a disciple of the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" guru.

Just installed Xiia live internet radio for shoutcast. Great complement to SS. Streamed a Hi def Classical station @ 320kbs bit rate for about 4 hour last night without a hint of a stutter or buffering pause! All over 3g, just to see how it would work.

I get similar reults streaming SS over 3g as most of my library is 256kbs bitrate. Turn on the bluetooth, place in the dash mount in my wheels, and pure high quality tunes for cruisin'.

Life is good.
