Android client. Server works on local & remote wifi not

Hi

Seem to have an unusual problem (looked about a bit in the forums with no joy)

My android client connects to my subsonic server just fine using local wifi, it also has no problems using remote wifi (or public wifi) HOWEVER it constantly times out when trying to connect via 3g/hspda

I have changed the port to a random port number (2550) and still no luck so it doesn't seem to be the provider blocking port 80

Using an HTC Desire on UK Vodaphone contract.

Anyone else on vodaphone in the uk having similar probs?

Thanks for any help.

Never use port 80. ISP's frequently block it or use it to manage the router remotely.

Try a different port.

Thanks, but I have already done that! Using port 2550 like I said in original post.

Have you tested the server on another dsktop from outside your network?

Yup - works fine on (external) wifi networks.
Just seems to be a prob with mobile data (3g) access.

Most likely bandwidth limitations. Have you done a Speedtest.net test on the phone?
I just tested mine and got .89Mbps down and .12 Mbps up While streaming a Shoutcast Classical 320kbps Station with not interruption of the music.

I am truly impressed with the quality I can stream on 3g both through SS and internet radio, but I am beggining to suspect that good band width is the key.

doesn't seem to be that

speedtest.tet results:
ping 318ms
down 1.10 Mbps
up 0.37 Mbps

Subsonic times out simply trying to connect to the server

BRAINWAVE!

Just discovered the problem - I use PeerBlock to block malicious IPs when using p2p transport - somehow UK Vodaphone is on the p2p blocklist - knew something had to be blocking it somewhere!

Problem solved - thankyou GJ51 so much for all the pointers though.

Am now a happy bunny.

:D

Congrats!

I would also suggest trying XiiaLive Lite for streaming internet radio from shoutcast. I've been listening to a 320kb stream all night.

Good stuff to complement SS when on the road!
