Search issues with 4.2 Beta 1

Postby skankmoses » Fri Nov 12, 2010 5:22 pm

First off, I know it's beta so I expected issues :)

The new search function is no good. It doesn't find most of my songs, albums, or artist anymore. It's more like the Android app now. Sorry but it's almost worthless.

Also when it installed it destroyed my library. What I mean by that is all the stats of "Newest", "Highest Rated", "Most Frequent", etc. All gone and with no rhyme or reason to their new order.

I did however like the new Google album cover search.

Either way had to revert back to 4.1 to get everything back up and running smoothly. As always I appreciate your hard work and enjoy the software very much which is why I donated.

Beta has issues with special characters in file names like periods and other characters above ASCII 128

I am running release version and it works much better in searches and scans.

************************************************
Dirname:

F:\MP3\MP3-049

Album that doesn't show at a search:

Frans Duijts - Zo Ben Ik Mezelf (2008) dir F:\MP3\MP3-049

Example: first filename:

01 Komt Er Voor Mij Dan Ook 'n Dag.mp3

************************************************

Album that does show at a search:

Frans Duijts - Denken Dat je Alles Mag (2008) dir F:\MP3\MP3-049

Example: first filename:

01 Jij Denkt Maar Dat Je Alles Mag Van Mij.mp3

************************************************

Tip!

When i browse at the left side of the screen (subsonic in browser) at directorie MP3-049
i can see the albums that doesn't show up in the search function.
Everthing works oke in version 4.1!

I am seeing new problems with foreign characters in directory names in 4.2 -- prime example being that I lost my Bjork entries until I renamed her artist directory without the umlaut in her name. I had tried the prior fix of editing the subsonic.sh file to add the LANG=en_US.UTF-8 line and it did not resolve the problem.

First i selected another directorie with only one mp3 album , than i did a new scan.

Then i selected my original music directorie and made a new scan again.

What was in the log file i do not know im running 4.1 because this version gives me no problems

Search doesn't find all entries, at least many albums. It was in the 4.2beta1 that's the first version I've used. It's also in the 4.2 running on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit with latest sun-java.

Log shows correct info on the search index:
[2010-12-07 02:34:45,336] INFO SearchService - Created search index with 86039 entries.

Also the search index (subsonic12.index) includes the albums i.e.
A ixYxi 1181576691000 ixYxi 1181576691000 ixYxi /path/Progressive Rock/Kingston_Wall-III-1994 ixYxi 0 ixYxi KINGSTON WALL ixYxi III ixYxi ixYxi ixYxi

The search can't find that album. It only finds the songs on it.

The album search works with some albums i.e.
A ixYxi 1243199729000 ixYxi 1243199729000 ixYxi /path/Rock/Green_Day-21st_Century_Breakdown-2009 ixYxi 0 ixYxi GREEN DAY ixYxi 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN ixYxi ixYxi ixYxi

I'm using the final 4.2 release and I'm still having so many problems searching for music.

My library is auto-sorted by Artist/Album/Track and if I have a compilation album (same album under different artists) then when I search for the album, it only returns the first artist hit and not the others.

This is a serious problem, and without this working correctly, search is useless for me.
