Difficulties with External player with playlist

Greetings

I'm trying to use an "External player with playlist" on a Mac (OS X 10.6.5). In Firefox, I go to Settings -> Players, select "External player with playlist", check both "Player has dynamic IP address" and "Control player automatically". Then I can load a playlist and hit "Play". This prompts to save a file called "play.m3u". All OK so far.

I can open the m3u file in iTunes (v10.1), and it will play, *EXCEPT* it can't be paused or skipped around within a file. In VLC, though, I can pause playback and skip around within a file. So why don't I just use VLC? Because VLC only displays the track name and not the artist or album name. And that's no good if I'm listening to a long random playlist taken from my library.

So I thought maybe if I uncheck "Control player automatically", maybe that would fix this behavior. But, no, if I do that, Firefox never prompts me to save the m3u file.

So: is this a problem with iTunes, with Firefox, or with Subsonic?

Any help is appreciated! :)

External player with playlist:
This works fine but one thing I have noticed is it is possible your browser or itunes is caching the file and not getting the new file. I have noticed if I add tracks after I build the initial playlist you have to click play again for subsonic to refresh the list to send back to the player. Maybe the player settings your using in subsonic might be using old settings...try recreating it.
