crashing mac

Postby mmh166 » Wed Dec 01, 2010 2:27 am

Running subsonic (4.1 and 4.2 recently) with no issues for a few months on a mac (leopard 5.0.3).

Transferred my music library to a new external hard drive (Western Digital 2TB Elements USB 2.0)

As soon as I did that, BAM... subsonic would lock up after a while. Server errors, no response. I can't even quit subsonic... force quit doesn't work either... hard reset.

I even went back to 4.1 thinking maybe it wasn't the hard drive coincidence.

Is the the external hard drive spinning down really causing this or what?

Ideas on ways to fix it?

Is forcing the hard drive to stay up a quick way to kill it?

HELP... THX

I don't have any experience with that drive on a mac but the drive spinning down would cause odd things to happen.
Do you have the app installed on local drive or the usb?

I run a 750 gb drive off my windows 2008 r2 server but never had issues with drive spinning down. See if your mac is set to power down usb to save power.

mac and subsonic

Hi:

have you added memory to your setup?. out of the box the mac setup is very low on mem.

I had to add more mem. to the system just to keep it up..Now I dont mean system mem but user mem.. this is what is what I did to get my MAC-MINI to work under 10.6.

1.goto
/application/subsonic.app/contents/info.plist

2.open with text edit. look for
string>
</array>

<key>
<string>-Xmx100m</string> ... this needs to be changed to add mem.

mine looks like this.
<string>Xmx1024m</string>... 100 meg is just to small.

I found that 512m on a windows xp machine works just fine and 1024 on the MAC seems to work ok...

I hope this helps, if you find another way let me know and I'll save it for later.
