Artists from multiple folders not sorted alphabetically

Postby blarsen » Sat Mar 10, 2007 9:46 am

Yeah, I'm new at this. And Subsonic is great, as you've heard before. :)

I'm loading stuff from multiple music folders to allow for genre-style filtering. But I notice that when I'm in "All folders" mode, the artist list is not sorted alphabetically but rather alphabetically by first letter and then, within each first letter, by folder and then alphabetically within the folder.

So I get stuff like this:

A
[>][+][D] Amy Winehouse
[>][+][D] The Alan Parson Project
[>][+][D] A Perfect Circle
[>][+][D] ACDC
[>][+][D] Afroman
[>][+][D] Akon
[>][+][D] Alanis Morissette
[>][+][D] Amine
[>][+][D] Amy Diamond
[>][+][D] Anastacia
[>][+][D] Avril Lavigne
[>][+][D] Aretha Franklin
[>][+][D] Arild Andersen
[>][+][D] Arnett Cobb
[>][+][D] Arnett Cobb With The Red Garland...
[>][+][D] Art Blakey
[>][+][D] Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers
[>][+][D] Art Pepper
[>][+][D] Arve Henriksen
[>][+][D] Astrud Gilberto
[>][+][D] A to Z of Classical Music
[>][+][D] Academy Of St. Martin-In-The-Fields...
[>][+][D] Anne Sofie von Otter
[>][+][D] Anne-Sophie Mutter

... where the first artist is from the New folder, the next 10 from the Misc folder, the next 9 from the Jazz folder, and the final 4 from the Classical folder.

I would have expected the list to be sorted alphabetically, regardless of where the artists were located.

Bug or feature? Does there exist a workaround?

Ah, that's definitely a bug. I'll look into it. Thanks for mentioning it!

I also have noticed this behaviour and found it to be a bit strange, but I also understand why it have been like that.

So if you fix this. How will you deal with artists that exists in several groups?

As it is now you will get them listed several times and that allows you to enter each of those artist folders seperately.

Do you plan to sort the list and then for duplicate artists also include the group name in the name? E.g. Like this:

Artist (Jazz)
Artist (Pop)

If you plan on collapsing equal artist names into one entry, how will you list the albums from each group? (It would be nice to know which group the album belongs to.)

Okay, I've fixed the sorting problem. For simplicity, duplicates will be displayed without any group adorning or collapsing (as I consider it to be a rather marginal case).

Again, thanks for your input :-)
