name.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it

I've been using Subsonic fine for months. All of a sudden, I can't access my name.subsonic.org from work, and when I checked the network settings, it says the above next to status. Nothing has changed. I've paid the donation to have the name registered. I don't know why it would suddenly stop working. I have everything going through port 4040, if that helps anyone.

What happens when you nslookup the name?

I'm having this same timeout issue this week. I was able to connect from Chrome & on my Android late last night for a little while, but it's out again today. All without changing any settings. Any help is appreciated.

Exrace, when I try to connect I get a standard "Could not connect" message. On both my work computer and my iSub iPhone app.

oeh, I've done the search. The results I found didn't apply to me. Any other thoughts?

Have you tried to check if the port are open on your router?

http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

PM me the server url, and I'll have a look

That site says it's not - I don't understand because I've had my router configured to forward port 4040 for months. In fact I just checked and it still says it's forwarding it. That site also has my IP address registering something different than what my Mac's Sharing preferences says. I thought my subsonic.org domain was supposed to forward my IP each time it changes or something like that? Like I said, it's been working fine for months up until this week.

Try willkooi.subsonic.org.

Thank you for your suggestions.

This is what worked for me. It happened before, but I forgot about it.
I'm on Windows & a wireless router, so it may be different for you.
I went to Command Prompt & typed 'ipconfig' to get my ip address.
Then went to my router port forwarding & updated the server ip address.
I'm not sure why it changed, but it did. Hope that helps.

That worked. Thanks for your help. That's frustrating, but oh well. At least it's all working again. Thanks.

The value of manually assigned IP, instead of dhcp. ;)

I think it may be long past time for a sticky that says:

Don't use port 80 - many ISP's block it or use it for remote management of your Gateway device.

Assign a fixed IP address for your server in your router.

Assign the same address to the NIC on the server.

Typically, you will want to assign an address at the top of the address range so that it will not be interfered with by DHCP. e.g. 192.168.1.254

Port numbers 8080, 8081, 8082, ... usually work very well.

Once set up, test access with http://192.168.1.254:8080

Then test http://servername:8080

Then test http://servername.subsonic.org

Ironically, (as always), doing it the hard way, IS the easy way.

I am new with this app and i am having the same problem. I have opened my port 80 and have check thru the yougetsignal link post above but i still nothing. And I do realize my router does use that port.
I now get this error message "Status: benwizzi.subsonic.org returned HTTP error code 401 Unauthorized".
How would I go about assigning a different port?

On the server where you installed SS, right click on the tray icon, open the SS Control Panel, click on the settings tab and enter whatever port number you want to use. Then make sure all your port forwarding settings are matching.
