Newly added artists not showing up in left panel

New artists are not populated in the left panel of the subsonic web interface after adding them to my collection. At least not right away... It only shows them after a few days (sometimes over a week). I'm not sure what happens for the new artist (or artists) to show up...

It should be noted that searching for the artist will find results almost right after I add the artists (after updating the search index of course). So, as a work around, I've been searching for the artist and then making a playlist for that new album so I can load it up quickly (typically for iSub).

I've been using the "Update search index now" option under the search tab in settings but this only seems to effect my ability to search for the new artist, but has nothing to do with being able to select the artist from the left panel.

Am I missing another place to update the index of artists?
Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong or missing?

Try pressing F5 on your keyboard when your browser is open on the subsonic page which in turn will refresh your screen or delete your cookies.

Hope that works,
Sean K

Thanks for the suggestion.

For good measure I've deleted all web history, cache, and cookies before reloading the site but to no avail.

I should also note that this same problem occurs over several computers. i.e. Home, work, iPhone, etc...

That is strange... :?

Do you have your file structure setup like below? Where you have a main folder called music and sub-folders with the artist's name

Code: Select all
Root Folder
   > Folder Artist 1
          > Folder Album1
                  - Song1
                  - Song2
          > Folder Album2
                  - Song1
                  - Song2

     > Folder Artist 2
          > Folder Album1
                  - Song1
                  - Song2
          > Folder Album2
                  - Song1
                  - Song2

Yes. To be specific, I initially use iTunes to edit and sort anything added to my library. It's set up to move music to a folder on an external hard drive mapped to Z:\ (so that the drive letter doesn't change if I happen to remove the drive and plug it back in)
iTunes sorts in the typical hierarchy
(e.g. Z:\music\the beatles\1969 abbey road\come together.mp3)

As an example here's an image.

You'll see I can search for fitz & the tantrums and subsonic finds it in my music library but you'll also see in the left panel that it's not in the list of artists.

This happens to me every time i add a new folder to my server. Try stopping the subsonic service and remount your music folder path under settings. Once i do that, all my changes and new music folders magically appear. Its kinda a pain the buttocks but Subsonic is such an awesome program that i can't complain..

I'm having a similar problem. New music shows up in the left panel but not in the "recently added" list on the web server or on android. It's all music I added today so I'm going to check tomorrow to see if it updated for some reason. I would just like to see an up to date list of the most recent music added to the library as it's added to Subsonic. Anyone know any tricks?

I believe that the "recently added" list comes from the search database rebuild, so you may have to wait until the rebuild runs, or run it yourself, before items will show there.

I am equally stumped about why a new folder would not show on the left after a refresh... ctrl-F5 is "Force reload All..." have you tried that?

To my knowledge, Subsonic does not cache the directory listings (which is why people sometime complain about the load time of large folders in Subsonic).

I haven't dug into the code to verify this though...

What's the best way to force a rebuild? I tried ctrl-f5 but it just refreshes the web ui, doesn't rescan the media folders.

P.S. It was as I'd expected, this morning the folders I'd added yesterday showed up. But I need a faster response. There appears to be no way to set how often the local media is scanned for a refresh.

Settings->Search->Update Search Index Now.

Ah, see I wasn't making the connection between search and the library in general. That should help. Thanks!
