Search limit question

Search results seem to be limited to 25 items in each category of ALBUM, ARTIST, SONG. I have about 200 albums that begin like so "Bach: ". When I search for "Bach" only 25 albums are listed. Am I missing a setting or is this by design? If it is by design is there a way around it?

Do you not have a "More" button at the bottom of the list?

As an alternative you could put all your Bach collection in it's own folder and then add that folder in the settings. That way they would appear with the rest of your music when you select All Folders or you could see the alone by selecting just the "Bach" folder.

When I first do a search, the first 5 items for each category are displayed with a "More" link at the bottom. Pushing "More" expands the list to 25 items but with no "More" link at the bottom. I cannot move my music folder around as there are people in the house using iTunes.

You can still create a seperate folder and duplicate the Bach music to it. The only cost is storage space. Then everybody would be happy. The downside is that in SS the Bach Music would appear twice when "All Folders" was selected.

True, but I guess I am looking for a more elegant solution - as I would have to do the same thing for Beethoven, Handel, Purcell, The Rolling Stones, Muddy Waters.... anything with more than 25 distinct elements.

Can't blame you there. Unfortunately my collection doesn't have more than 25 of any one thing so I can't duplicate the same issue on my server.

I assume that your folders are organized by Artist/album. In your case it might make more sense to use Composer/album for the Classical music. Sounds like you have a very nice library.

EDIT: I just set the Random albums display to 50. Doing so created a scroll bar on the right to be able to view the albums below the player bar.

Requesting that the search feature do the same to enable seeing a complete search result might be worth posting in the feature requests section.

This is a real issue for me as well. The above-mentioned scroll bar would indeed be great.

As for replicating the problem on other servers, GJ51 -- just do a search for something ubiquitous, like: the*

I'm sure you have more than 25 song titles containing the word "the"!

Good idea, except SS ignores defined articles by default. The El La Los Las Le Les are all ignored. I suppose I could remove it from the mask, but search as it is currently is sufficient for my needs. I do understand how users with huge libraries needs better search capabilities. However, I also think that refining the search input may also achieve good results for most users.

For example, instead of just inputting "Bach", which may have hundreds if not thousands of results, you could input "Bach Sonatas." If that still yeilds too many results, input "Bach Violn Sonatas" and so on. The more refined your search input is, the fewer results you will get. My library isn't large enough to test for possible limitations using this strategy, but I would think that an owner of a really large collection would be sufficiently knowlegeable to input search criteria to yeild results that enable to locate specific albums/tracks.

EDIT: If anyone wants to grant me access to a really huge library, I'll be happy to test.

PS - My son, who is a concert violinist, and I both love Classical Music.

you're right, SS will ignore "the", but if you use the wildcard, it will match things like "they", "them", "theme", etc. Leads to many many matches in my popular songs database.
