Extremely slow movie (and only movies) listing

I have a huge amount of music and that all works fine perfect.
BUT
When I select my "Movies" and then click on the dir that has them in it, SOMETIMES it can take up to a minute or 2 before the listing shows up.
I have not been able to see what is happening in the background at the time, and at the moment it is listing quickly (wouldnt you know it!)
I HAVE run the "update indexes" and still had it be slow. I have also noticed that it has been fast, then later takes 2 minutes, then later fast again.
Also, this sporatic behavior is not related to the machine or subsonic being restarted... It has been running the whole time, so it is not like a caching issue where it is slow the first time.
I am running 4.3 on Ubuntu 9.10. The machine has 6GB of RAM and is a Quad Core AMD CPU - so it is not underpowered hardware. I have allocated 1GB to subsonic, but that did not help.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?

What format are your movies in and what's your file structure?
I use mp4's in the following structure:
C:\Movies\moviename\moviename.mp4
Everything loads and runs fine on multiple servers, all windows based. One on WHS (Server 2003) and two on Server 2008 R2.

mostly avi with a few other formats here and there.
/mc/movies is the top level dir.
There are 2 directories under that
/mc/movies/grown-ups
/mc/movies/kids
It is odd that it struggles so much.

So no one else has seen this? Do I have too many movies?

So it appears that what I click on the movie folder, it is going through ALL the movies with:
ffmpeg -i /path/to/movie.avi
I would expected that it would only have to do this once and store the results. Instead, it appears to reread all the movie information over and over again.
I can confirm this

I can confirm the same behavior. My library is one folder of ripped and downloaded files - I use XBMC for my media center - don't want each file in its own subfolder.
It is running the ffmpeg on each file for the listing. Waiting 4-5 min. each time I load the movies directory isn't fun.
Can we cache these results in the next version please? The videos play perfectly on all end-points. Waiting for the directory listing is my only concern.
Thanks Sindre!
Bump, huge deal, please fix this.

I'm bumping this thread because I have the same problem as of Subsonic 4.5b2. This is a huge deal for me, as my movies folder has about 1200 files in it. Every time I try and get a listing, Subsonic delays for about 3 minutes while it runs ffmpeg -i on every single movie.
Please change Subsonic so this can be either cached or disabled. I assume it's probing for movie times or generating thumbnails. Honestly for a fast load time I'd gladly do without either.
Just a little checkbox under options saying "disable movie time probe", easy as that!
Thanks!

same problem...
Upgraded Ram in Server from 3GB to 8GB. No improvement... in the process also found that increasing "Memory Limit" past 1536 (or 1630 to be exact) will keep the service from running.
hmmmmmm. Hangs on Mobile and Web UI every time I click the movies folder.

Just registered to bump this thread. This is an issue I have had since I started using SS. I mainly use it for video and have a large collection. Search generally works pretty well but pulling up directory listings is painfully slow. Has anyone found any workaround for this? Is there any word on caching for this being added to the a future release?

Worked perfectly.
Took about .5 seconds.
Wow.
That site is down.
