How to tell if downsampling is working?

So, I have all my players and users set up to downsample to one degree or another...but when I look at the status of each player under settings, it always shows the bitrate at above 300 - does this mean that the downsampling is not working? Or is it showing me the original bitrate of the file?

And, if downsampling is not working, how can I troubleshoot? I believe LAME is set up correctly - any way to test this?

login as another user and listen to the degraded quality?

Not sure I would even notice the difference between 192 and 320, since the playback equipment I'm using isn't studio quality...

What I am really looking for is a way to see the actual bitrate as it is being output to the player.

If you check the admin log you can see when lame is triggered to reencode a song that has been requested to be down sampled..

I should look something like this

Code: Select all
Starting transcoder: [c:\subsonic\transcode\lame] [-S] [-h] [--resample] [44.1] [-b] [160] [--tt] [Song Name] [--ta] [Artist] [--tl] [Album] [song location.mp3]

Exactly what I needed - thanks! Looks like downsampling is working fine!
