The searching mechanism itself doesn't work correctly, I've raised this issue before during 4.2 and it still hasn't been fixed.

Interesting - what version did you start at? is this a new install? i started at 3.9 myself and i concur with others that the new search setup is completely useless. In fact, until it gets sorted out, ive moved to amarok. the search functionality there is very nice, and very effective. just wish they had a web gui like subsonic.

Also, this new video pane, needs a way to be disabled on a player by player basis, its messing with my network video streaming. gstreamer, xine, and VLC understand pretty much all the streams i have - and it keeps the cpu load down on my server machine (those cycles are better used for all the other stuff ive got going on)

I know this wasn't directed toward me but I thought I would enter the convo since my search is also working fine.

I've been using subsonic since version 3.3 when it became evident that VibeStreamer was being abandoned by the developer.

I think the last clean install I did was around v3.7

Here are the details about my install. I'm running SS 4.3 on a Windows XP sp3 box. All of my mp3's have both id3v1 and id3v2 tags.

Techno I see that you are using linux.
Is anyone else having problems using a linux distro?
When/If it finds results does it only find a certain file type? ie mp3, ogg, flac?
Is everyone using id3v1 and id3v2 tags on their mp3s?

Lets start posting some specifics. There is probably a pattern involved with this problem.

I satrted with version 4.1 and just upgrded each install over the last version. Everything works fine for me. It's certainly easy enough to do a clean install, at least on windows platforms. Every SS feature works fine on my servers. I have 3 running.

I have been using SS since v3.1, but since I moved to my Linux server I started over with the DB. It was probably about a year ago. I'm currently running version 4.3 with no issues regarding the search.

I did have a post on the unRaid fourms (where my install guide is also posted) with someone telling me the search isn't working. I directed him to this thread.

All my files are either flac or mp3 with both id3v1 and id3v2 tags. Check the "Music Mask" field under settings -> general to see if you have the file types you want to index.
Code: Select all
.mp3 .ogg .aac .flac .m4a .wav .wma .wav .xm

It wouldn't be too much trouble for me to test a new install of v4.3 on my system. unRaid servers run completely in memory and I must restore the search index files on reboots. I have rebuilt the index from scratch in version v4.2 when my search index would not restore after a reboot for some reason.

The developer informed me that a new sub-folder was created with additional files the search function uses. On linux it's /var/subsonic/data/lucene/ (3 folders) You might want to check to see if those files are being created.

I started using subsonic server at version 4.0 or 4.1 I forget, right before the new search system was implemented.

I did not use the search much before the change, so I don't know how well (or bad) the original search worked, but I know the lucene search (or scanner) is not finding all my stuff.

I would rather not uninstall/re-install since it is otherwise working and in use, but if there are any old and new database/index/search files I can clear out and rescan I will try that.

I'm brand new, and I'm having the same problem.

I just installed Subsonic over the weekend. I even threw some money the developer's way. I really like the software.

But the search function is just not working properly for me. I understand that the "index" includes Artist names, Albums, and Songs. Almost all of my music is classical, and I organize my folders by the principal Artist. Virtually every Album tag starts with the name of the composer. So if I search on "Mozart," it ought to bring up, well, at least 40 or 50 Albums. It brings up maybe 15.

I've rebuilt the index any number of times, and the log file shows that it is indexing all of the "songs."

I think there is a problem here. It isn't a deal killer for me, because I know what Artists play what music. But my friends won't necessarily have that knowledge. They might want to be able to search for a composer's name or something.
