dvr-ms Transcoding

I tried my luck with transcoding dvr-ms files but couldn't get it working.

I found the following example of transcoding a dvr-ms to mpg with ffmepg:
ffmpeg -y -i "input filename.dvr-ms" -vcodec copy -acodec copy -f dvd "output filename.mpg"

and tried to adapt that for SS:
ffmpeg -ss %o -f dvd -i %s -async 1 -b %bk -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -v 0 -f flv -

But that obviously didn't work. All other transcoding rules work as expected and i can now also stream my videos with SS and therefore decided to donate. The only thing that's missing for me atm is streaming the aforementioned dvr-ms files from my MCE Archive on my WHS.

DVRMS Toolbox can recode dvr-ms to wmv or mpg but can only output to files if i read that correctly and that doesn't really help afaik.

Forgot to add the transcondig in the players. It works now as all other media files with the standard video transcoding ffmpeg call, except the starting time selection. The list is empty.

What's necessary to get that working?

just curious what the file sizes are for a dvr-ms video file recording? In Windows Media Center on Windows 7 they use a newer filetype called wtv which is a little different than Vista's dvr-ms file type and a 30 minute recording can be over 1GB.
That being said if I were wanting to stream my WMC recordings I'd think you would want to convert them to another video filetype prior.
May want to look at MCEBuddy http://mcebuddy.com/ to convert (and remove ads!) your recordings prior so they are smaller files to work with. Should eliminate this problem too.

Thanks for the MCE buddy tip. I just ordered a Ceton card today to integrate into the home network with Verizon FIOS. Can't wait to see if I can get everything to play nice with SS.

I just installed a Ceton tuner in my desktop that stores the video in WTV format. Anybody got any tips on setting this up in SS?

Added .wtv to the video mask

Added wtv > flv

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 30 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 23.976 -s %wx%h -acodec copy -

edited playlist.jsp }
if (song.format == "aac" || song.format == "m4a" || song.format == "wtv") {

No joy :(

The file is still trying to play in the music player, rather than calling JW in video player.

ffmpeg -ss %o -i %s -async 1 -b %bk -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -v 0 -f flv -

Works fine. Just remember to add it to the selections for the player you use.

I've tried this with no joy. :(
I'm trying to get /wtv files recorded with Windows 7 Media Centre to play back in SubSonic. Can anyone help?

Thanks for the post. After reading your post, i checked my recorded TV and found that it wasn't working after the most recent update to 4.5b2.

Then i remembered that I updated my ffmpeg to the latest build. I readded the latest ffmpeg and it now works again.

Try going to

http://ffmpeg.org/download.html

and download the latest ver. of ffmpeg and overwrite it to the transcode subdirectory.

Remember to check the added transcoding for any players that were created before adding the wtv >flv setting.

Revised transcoding:

ffmpeg -ss %o -i %s -async 30 -b %bk -r 23.976 -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -v 0 -f flv -

I also edited playlist.jsp
if (song.format == "aac" || song.format == "m4a" || song.format == "wtv") {

but I'm not sure if I really needed to.

Thanks! :D

That worked beautifully, with no need to edit the jsp.

Thanks for the feedback on the .jsp.

Being able to watch wtv is a really cool feature. I've got a Ceton card in my HTPC that records all the stuff my kids want to watch. That then gets archived to my server so the kids can pull it up through SS when they're not home. My daughter heads to college this fall and is really glad we have this working.
