Subsonic iphone app w/donation

Postby capsize » Wed Jan 19, 2011 1:58 pm

hello,

was wondering if by donating that I would be able to download the iphone app? there is a note on the homepage saying:

Donors get access to premium features like:

•Stream music to Android, iPhone and Windows Phone 7*.

not sure if that means ill get access, or that ill get the app.

thanks!

By paying the donation, your SERVER will now allow connections from mobile apps.

I believe that the current status of mobile apps is:

Android - Free app.
iSub (iPhone) - Pay App
Z-Subsonic (iPhone) - Pay App
Subsonic for Windows Phone 7 - Pay App
SubAir (desktop) - Free App

There have been some reports that people have Subair running on mobile platforms, but I cannot verify that on anything but an Android, but why would I want to run it on an Android when there is already a free droid app.

HTH,

Glenn

One other thing I should have pointed out...

Subsonic exposes an API (application programming interface) that other programmers can take advantage of if they'd like to.

It is up to them if they charge for their applications or not.

I firmly believe Sindre must use an Android phone, since he took the time to code an Andoid app. But being the nice single-dipping kind of guy he is, he chooses to release the application for Android for free, since we have already paid him once to allow mobile access at all.

Capish?

Sindre actually has 2 Android phones one of which is the Nexus One. I can't remember what the other one is.

Just to clarify what is often a confusing topic. When you pruchase a license to Subsonic, one of the features it enables is access to the server from a mobile device. Without licensing the server after 30 days, mobile devices will not be able to connect to the server.

The app used on your mobile device is a SEPERATE issue. The Android app is free of charge at this time. The iSub app is an independently developed application. It's fees and licensing are independent of the Subsonic server licensing.

Many users purchase the mobile app and then get frustrated that it doesn't include the licensing of the server. Sindre has little control over what others charge for their apps.
