Link External User Directly to Playlist

Postby Armando Penblade » Sun Jan 23, 2011 1:41 am

Is there a way to link an external user directly to a certain playlist within Subsonic? Thank you for any assistance :)

No problem. Just Select "more actions at far right of the player line, select playlist load to bring up your playlists, Right click and select "copy Link address"

When you enter the link it will take the user to the logon screen. Once logged on the playlist will load.

Unfortunately, that gives me a link that Chrome and Opera don't seem to know what to do with (two browsers I've tested it with).

If I'm not already logged in on a browser, it does bring me to the logon screen, but then it just brings me to the main splash page without actually loading the playlist.

If I am already logged in with that browser, it brings me to a totally blank page.

To be sure, the link I am getting is in the format of:

http://serverIPaddress/loadPlaylistConf ... 642e6d3375

and I obtain it by going to the Load playlist screen, right clicking the link to load the specific one in question, and copying that exact link.

Thank you for your answer, by the way! At least I feel like I am getting somewhere with this :)

Upon further review - It works, but ... it can only load a playlist create for the user that logs in. If I have a playlist under my username, I can load it using the method described, but if I use that link and log in as a guest it doesn't work. Playlists are specific to each user, which is what whacks the process.

I'm doing the testing in Chrome and IE. Chrome works, IE doesn't.

That'll explain it, then. My intention was to share the music with guests. Rather not give everyone admin access. . . but perhaps I can recreate the playlist as a guest or something, then. I'll play around with it more in the morning.

Once again, thanks for the answers and research!

Truly wierd!! After a few tries it starts working. See what results you get on my server.

Use Chrome.

I may have been a bit hasty. It now appears that all users see all playlists.

So very odd: it just gives me the same blank page, as though the browser is somehow confused by the action it's supposed to be taking. On the first try, I got your login screen, but the playlist did not load afterward. Subsequent tries just get a blank page in Chrome.

I'm getting very inconsistent results. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I haven't yet figured out if there's a singlefactor that yeilds success.

I'm getting different results from copy/pasting the link and logging in as different users on firefox and safari on the mac. It would be very handy to be able to do this.
