iPhone not listing any artists with any app?

Hey guys.

So far I'm getting on well with Subsonic. Keeps me entertained in college when my iPhone battery goes flat by using the web interface, however I have a problem. The iPhone apps, iSub and Z-Subsonic can't see ANY artists at all. If I make a playlist via the web interface, they can see that and will play it just fine, but individual artists, albums etc, nope.

Any ideas on where I'm going wrong?

Music is stored on a server running Windows Server 2008, ports are forwarded and exceptions are set in the firewall. All music is on a local hard drive copied over from iTunes on another computer. I can browse with the web interface at cont1204.subsonic.org just fine. I am using port 90, 80 is being used by another program.

Any ideas why I can see and play a playlist, but not open any songs?

Thanks a lot.

Right it appears because of the way I've copied music over from my main PC to the server, it's not loading it properly because it's all in one big folder. This is going to take a lot of sorting!

Right an update, got that sorted and music now lists properly. Next problem is again, streaming related. My iPhone connects fine with both apps mentioned previously but does not play. It times out every time when using 3G. plays perfectly fine on WiFi but that obviously reduces its use a fair bit.

I don't understand... I think I am having the same problem of my music not displaying (on my android client), but I'm not sure how folder organization has anything to do with it.
Here are the 2 music folders I have set up:
/home/ubuntu/music/newalbum (contains 1 mp3)
/mnt/music (contains a bunch of mp3s)

Subsonic makes the assumtion that, inside your music folders, you have a structure that ENDS with "Artist\Album\<individual track files>."

You can have anything you want above the artist folder, but for what I think you are looking for (a list of artists in the left pane, and when you click on the artist, you see albums by that artist, and in the album entry is its tracks) you have to do a little more subfolder-ing.

oh wow I can't believe I missed that.

This whole time I was assuming that Subsonic was organizing albums by ID3 tags...

Once I created folders and moved the files as you described, the songs showed up on my android client.

I'll update my other thread where I was asking about this problem.

However I was there was an option to have the albums generated by ID3.. I always make sure that those are correct. I have a bunch of mp3s sitting in an s3 bucket right now that do not follow this folder organization.

Thanks for your help!
