Hi there, I'm a music producer/songwriter and I'd like to share some of my songs n my library with a client i but I don't want her to have access to all the rest of my library. I've made a separate path with only the songs I want to share and I made a new user for the client. I was hoping there was a way to designate only the new folder to be accessible by the user. Can't find a way to do it. Anyone know if this is possible

Not available yet, but it has been requested as a new feature several times. I use multiple servers to achieve seperation between private and public files.

So when you say two servers you mean you use two separate machines? Is there a way to run two instances on same machine?

I've never tried two instances on the same machine, but I do believe I have read someone claim that it can be done. If I get ambitious someday, I may give that a try. My current configuration is one instance on a WHS box and I have another server running Windows Server 2k8R2 with an installed VM running Win SBS 7 preview. Both the Win 2k08 and the VM have SS installed.

All of them run smooth and steady without any issues and were recently updated to ver 4.4 beta 1 from 4.3 all in under 10 min.

To run 2 servers at once theoretically you need to Subsonic standalone installs in 2 separate folders, assigned to two different ports. That should be all thats needed (in theory).

You could then make one have context path "/" for everyone and the other "private". with the first having only a guest or your clients login and the private one only your login. then the can be accessed by "http://yourserver.com:yourport1" for client and "http://yourserver.com:yourport2/private" for you.

EDIT: thx to bushman4 for correcting my paths.

Yesterday I had to subsonics running on one PC while I was trying the WAR version.
I had one running by the installer and another running under tomcat 6.0 one the same pc. As they were pointing to different ports I was able to access both.
So, at least in this way, I can confirm that it is possible to do.

While we're on the topic, the Context Path entry on the Settings Tab of the SS Control Panel is one of the settings I haven't yet delved into. Any one know exactly what it does and how it works?

The context path determines with what path you can access your server.
The servers adress and port number together with the context path is the URL with which the server can be reached.

Examples: (items separated by "|")
[context path] | [server] | [port] | [URL]
/ | myserver.com | 80 | http://myserver.com:80/ or http://myserver.com/ (default port)
/subsonic | herserver.com | 54321 | http://herserver.com:54321/subsonic
and so on.

I tried running two instances of subsonic and have yet to get it to work properly. I am running on windows though. I can get both running, and use either one, but as soon as I perform any sort of action in one, I get logged out of the other. Any ideas?

Hey Guys,

I am using VirtualBox a free VM platform. If you have the resources on your machine you could run multiple virtual instances on different ports without a problem.
