Subsonic Forum

I tried installing subsonic, it installed fine (from what i can tell) and then when i try to launch the application i get the following error:

Cannot launch Java application

Uncaught exception in main method:
org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'controller' defined in class path resource [applicationContext-mac.xml]: Instantiation of bean failed; nested exception is
org.springframework.beans.BeanInstallationException: Could not instantiate bean class
[net.sourceforge.subsonic.booter.mac.SubsonicController]: Constructor threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: java/awt/TrayIcon

Im not sure what any of this means, I am not proficient in coding or terminal or any of that stuff, i just want to be able to try this app out before i donate. Please help!!
Im running a macbookpro on 10.5.8 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 2 Gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM... All of my software is up to date including java

i also tried installing this on my imac with the same results

I am getting the same problem opening the app.

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a Core Duo Macbook.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest Java?

I'm not sure how one would do that, given that Mac OS X has Java integrated into the OS (as in, it's not a separate app you can just remove).

Sorry, my bad, I'm nt a Mac user. Is there a way to check to be sure it is up-to-date?

According to System Profiler, the Java apps and frameworks are at 12.8.0 (except JavaEmbedding, which is at 12.0.0), and were last updated March 8. Software Update shows no necessary updates. Does that help?

Getting the same annoying error on a Mac Mini (Intel 1.5ghz Solo) running 10.5.8. Fresh install of Subsonic. Any solution or suggestions?

EDIT: 4.0.1 works. 4.2 & 4.3 generated the same error. Didn't try 4.1 or any others. Happy to help troubleshoot. Would love to get the latest version running.

I got 4.4 running on an XP box but would love to get it going on my Mac since it's on all the time. I will happily donate if I can get it working. Not complaining since I haven't spent a dime but it does seem like there are others having the same issue. I am happy to help troubleshoot & try get this resolved for everyone. Suggestions are welcom. I have Googled the error without much luck (in fact, that's what brought me here).

I must say I am impressed by Subsonic's ability to handle my 46K+ songs using hardly an resources. Similar products both paid and free (and I have tried MANY) usually won't even load all of my songs and when they do - make the computer they are running on unusable.

Anyone?

I am getting this same error. I also am running 10.5.8 on a PPC imac G5. I have updated to the latest Java that is supported on that machine (Java 5). According to the requirements of subsonic this should work.

I have another iMac that is intel running 10.6 and subsonic works great on that one. Although it is running Java 6 so I don't know if that is the main difference or not.

If anyone has any ideas on this one it would be a great help because I want my PPC imac to be my audio server. Could this be a bug in subsonic and Java 5 on the mac?

I just tried on another G5 iMac running 10.5.8 that I have at work and it gave the same error.

So here is my question? Has anyone gotten Subsonic 4.4 to work on a PPC based mac? If so what OS version and what mac?

Well I tried doing the manual install and that actually works fine. The problem must be related to the Macos X application. So for anyone that is having problems on their ppc based mac just use the manual install version instead.
