How can I choose what user subsonic runs as under linux?

Postby fr1day » Fri Mar 04, 2011 4:12 pm

I've only just noticed that by default subsonic runs as user root under linux (ubuntu server 10.04 LTS).

From a security perspective that's probably not a good thing, and any time I download a piece of album art I'm creating files on my server owned by root and in the root group.

Is there a nice easy way, a switch in /etc/default/subsonic, or something to just change the user subsonic runs under?

All of my music is owned by the same non shell user so ideally I'd like to use this.

Thanks, but I have tried a search and found nothing which is why I joined the forum and started the thread.

If it has been answered before and a simple search query can provide the answer perhaps you could point me in the right direction?

Oh dear. I had hoped software that basis it's self on a donation model would have slightly better support than that overused unhelpful standard reply of "try doing a search".

Most forums I'm involved with try to welcome new members and if they are doing something obviously wrong point them in the right direction instead of trying to fob them off as an inconvenience. The second reply is nearly worse as it suggests a search query is found that provided a useful result, but instead of a link to the post(s) in question which might actually be of some benefit instead I get a 4 word answer.

Having said that, and as disappointing my initial welcome to the subsonic community is, I am aware that I shouldn't judge an entire forum by just one member. Does anyone have anything useful to say on the subject?
