Slow display of video listing

I have been running subsonic for a long time now. I have nothing but good to say about it, as this is by far the best out on the net!

The question I have is for all of you who have video content on your servers. Do you have a considerable delay when you click on the folder where your video is in listing the content in that folder?

I click on the left hand side link to video, and it takes about 5-15 seconds and sometimes longer for it to list the content on the right hand pane.

I just finished upgrading my server to a PE 1800.
This is a server that has Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.40GHz, 4 cores (dual procs) and 8 gig of RAM.
OS is on a Raid 1 (2 250 gig hdds)
Subsonic content is on a raid 5 (4 1TB drives)
These are separate Raid Cards.
New build, standalone subsonic on Ubuntu Server 10.04

Just curious cause I didn't see any performance increase when listing content only in the video section. Music is lightning fast!

Any hints, tips are welcome.

Thanks!

The problem exists because Subsonic does a "ffmpeg -i" for each movie in the listing, presumeably to see what kind of streams exist in the file. The results are unfortunately not cached.

So currently, this is "by design." I believe it is on Sindre's "list" to fix.

HTH,

HTH,

Wow.. That totally makes sense. Thanks for changing my direction of thinking. LOL I am going to look into this one a little further. Thanks a ton!

I can confirm this

I can confirm the same behavior. My library is one folder of ripped and downloaded files - I use XBMC for my media center - don't want each file in its own subfolder.

It is running the ffmpeg on each file for the listing. Waiting 4-5 min. each time I load the movies directory isn't fun.

Can we cache these results in the next version please? The videos play perfectly on all end-points. Waiting for the directory listing is my only concern.

Thanks Sindre!
