cant get m3u playlists with stream URLs anymore...

Postby mtakacs » Sat Apr 09, 2011 8:48 pm

super short version:

Anyone know what might have changed that my "play album" request is now generating zips of mp3 instead of generating a m3u playlist with streams?

(full details in next post)

Hello,
Loving my subsonic installation. After upgrading to 4.4 the other day, the behavior of my player has changed.

my previously experience

    * I'd go to the subsonic webinterface
    * click one of the albums on the homepage
    * click "play all"
    * which would trigger my "vlc" player profile
    * This seemed like it would download a play-01.m3u file
    * my mac launched VLC
    * VLC opened the streams

These files contained stuff that looked like:

Code: Select all
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:187,Toby Keith - She's A Hottie
http://192.168.1.15:4040/stream?player=4&pathUtf8Hex=2f632.....7033&suffix=.mp3
#EXTINF:240,Carrie Underwood - Last Name
http://192.168.1.15:4040/stream?player=4&pathUtf8Hex=2f632f6d6......6d7033&suffix=.mp3
...

I cant seem to get subsonic to generate those downloads anymore. It keeps trying to

a) download as a playlist t and resolve all the references into the actual MP3 files, generating a ZIP file containing mp3s (not what I want)

b) plays in the browser (not what I want)

When I look at the last seen player settings, they show up as:

Code: Select all
Type    QuickTime/7.6.6 (qtver=7.6.6;cpu=IA32;os=Mac 10.6.7)
Last seen   April 9, 2011 1:17:11 PM

which is NOT what I want, that seems to subsonic trying to hand off to quicktime, not VLC.

I've tried to reconfigure the player in different ways:

web / external / external+playlist / juekbox

but I cant seem to get it right. My best guess as to how it should be configured is:

    * external player
    * cover art: medium
    * max bitrate : no limit
    * player has dynamic IP: checked
    * control player automically: checked
    * active transcodings: (all, default)

I dont want to broadcast to a player, Id like it to go back to generating a playlist that will allow my player to connect. (when I use the old playlists that got downloaded to my Downloads dir, they works fine)

log after using a stream url of - http://192.168.1.15:4040/stream?
Code: Select all
[4/9/11 1:42:31 PM PDT]   INFO   StreamController   Got range: Range[0,9223372036854775807]
[4/9/11 1:42:31 PM PDT]   INFO   PlaylistInputStream   admin listening to "Part II [2001]/02 I'm Gonna Miss Her.mp3"

any idea what I might have to do in order to get back to having subsonic hand me stream playlists that I can use in VLC?

or if I do have to subscribe to a stream, where can I get the URL (mUrl?) of the stream so I can put it into VLC's "play network stream"

or am I fundamentally misunderstanding the model of how I'm supposed to listen to my music thru subSonic?

When you select external player with playlist SS hands off the request to the default desktop player. Is it possible that a quicktime update redefined the default player?

oddly enough, if I access Subsonic using MacOS Safari, the selected playlist / album does indeed trigger VLC with a list of streaming URLs. I am happy.

If I access Subsonic using MacOS Chrome, I get the unexpected behavior described above. I am sad.

I'm not sure why Chrome would behave so badly, but since I have a workaround (use Safari for launching my albums / playlist), I'm ok. Not entirely sure what might have happened tho.
