Unable to play .m4v with 5.1

Postby one_with_shadows » Wed May 04, 2011 1:21 am

Hello all. I have been trying to stream my geekfest of Voyager to my android. I am running SS 4.4 on windows 7 32bit. I have downloaded a smaller test file and verified that it works. It seems to just be the particular files I'm trying to play. I believe it has something to do with having more than 2 audio channels.

I read in another post to try

Try:

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 30 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 23.976 -s %wx%h -acodec copy -

or

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 30 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 23.976 -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -

the 2nd line did nothing, but the first line gave me video, but no sound.

I know almost nothing about transcoding, so please take it easy on my fragile mind :P any help would be appreciated.

log if needed

Don't feel bad, most of us don't know nearly as much as we'd like to about transcoding. Unfortunately our resident expert on the issue hasn't been on the board for several weeks now.

Your problem is most likely found in the log where it says. "Resampling with input channels greater than 2 unsupported." I don't know if there is a way around that but I usually pre convert my video to mp4 or flv format with AVS Converter to avoid the whole transcoding thing. Transcoding takes a lot of CPU overhead and usually causes problems under any but the most ideal conditions or low resolutions.

Hopefully the expert comes back on and finds this thread. A lot of my videos have 5.1 audio in them. The videos will play but the audio does not. It would be great if the transcoder could also transcode the audio to a compatible format.

You might try searching some of Stozher's old posts. He may have already discussed this previously. I sent him an email to see what happened, but I've not heard back from him and his site has gone quiet. Too bad. He made excellent contributions to the community. I hope he returns.
