Hey guys i've a problem with the random music function. If you go to your home-screen in subsonic you usually have the possibility to let subsonic collect a random list of music, but this doesn't seem to work on my server.
when i go to my homescreen the only thing happening is the messeage:
"Your music folders are being scanned. Not all functions are available yet."
(I translated this message into english because my default language using subsonic is german...thats why the message maybe sounds a little bit different form the original english one)
i hope you can help me with that

Did you wait for the scanning to finish?

Could take a while if the music is on an (slow) external drive or the connection is very large...

Well.... I waited for several hours but the message is still there : " your music folders are being scanned at the moment...."
The music is on an internal 2TB HDD and has ~ 50 GB size.
I don't know what the prolem is...
My server runs @win7 prof. 64
8GB ram
3x 2TB + 60GB SSD ( partition C and all programes...)
Any ideas? ;-)

In that case the scan should be nearly instant. Have you restarted the Subsonic process? Might have just hung...

Shouldn't take very log at all. Reboot the host PC. Then open SS go to settings/search and click on the "Update search index now." link.

I think the reboot wasn't good :-( now ss isn't starting anymore ... the tray icon is still there but it is red and if I try to start ss in the control panel nothing happens... what shall I do? Reinstall?

You could try opening the services mmc and restarting the sevice manually.
Press the start button then type services in the search box. Open the services console, high light Subsonic and click restart.

I tried to restart manually but It only works if I execute ss as administrator. Meanwhile I found out that ss only starts if I don't change the standart ports... now ss is running but again I have the problem that the random music doesn't work XD
The next problem is that due to the security question of win 7 ss isn't starting automaticly anymore. Every time after a reboot I have to start ss with admin rights manually...but I don't want to low down the security settings...
*sigh* quite complicated
Edit:
i've started the refresh of the search index manually 2min ago - i'll see what happens ;-) but the problem of conflicts with windows UAC remains ....
Edit2:
by the way the search-function isn't working either... but that is not very surprising to me since the scan of my music-libary doesn't work.
I really don't know what to do. The Random function isn't very importen to me, but the search is.
By now i think the problem the Windows 7 UAC but i'm not sure because when i disabled the UAC the problems remained...

You've got something wrong with either the SS installation, or Windows.
I've installed SS dozens of times on Win 7/Server 08 systems without any problems.
Uninstall SS from Control Panel/Programs and features. Then delete the C:\Subsonic directory. Uninstall all versions and updates of Java from Conrtrol Panel/Programs and settings.
Reboot the computer and reinstall the latest Java from
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp install the 32 & 64 bit versions if you use 64 bit IE, if not then just install the 32.
Reinstall SS.

Hey Guys
i found out something interessting: the standartports aren't the real problem: SS doesn't start if i change the max memory-usage (default is 100mb right?
Well, if i change it to 4000mb ( i have more than enough ram for that) SS is striking.
At the moment the random-music function is working, but the search isn't.
I Think tonight or tomorrow (depends on how long i have to work today) i'm going to deinstall SS , reboot and reinstall / update SS and Java as well....does the order of this procedure matter?

Edit: I did complete reinstallation including several reboots and stuff and what can i say.... IT WORKS ! Thanks a lot for your help!
There is only one problem remaining: i cannot change the standart memoryusage because if i do so, SS isn't working anymore...
but this is something i can deal with ;-)

Changing the memory should work. I usually Open the Subsonic Control Panel from the system tray icon, then Stop the service. Then click on the Settings tab and enter the change to the memory limit. I use 256, but if you have the space put in whatever you're comfortable with. Save the settings, then cilck on the Status tab and click on the Start Button. Give the service a little time to restart, then close. IF Windows, Jave, and Subsonic are properly installed, this should be working.

Good morning,
the problem of "never ending folder scan" is back -.-'
I think when Subsonic tried to refresh the search index last night this bug appeared.... As is said i did the full deinstallation and reebot + java-update.
Now i'm pretty confused what the problem could be. The only explanation i have is a bug in SS because my setting isn't very unusuall, is it?
My System is a normal windows 7 prof. 64bit OS
8gb ram
3x 2 TB HDD +
60GB SSD
the System is working 24/7 and includes two other server-services : Serv-U (a FTP-Server) and strem-to-me which i need for streaming by musik/ movies to our ipad. could it be possible that these server-services cause this problem?

If you have a clean install of Java and SS with no errors reported during the installation, you most likely have an underlying problem with the OS. Time to open event viewer and start reading through the Administrative events log.
