You can install SS again and get a new trial period.

sounds like bull crap?

You can install and use subsonic without trial limitations -> "just want to make sure i can set this up on my new router"
payment is only to allow use of API and remote listening -> use of other programs which interact with subsonic..

It taked maximum 2 min to install SS. It makes more sense to me getting the latest ver. of SS and doing a new fresh install than try and troubleshoot a ver. that is at least a few months old and never proven to work.
Dont over complicate things or jump to conclutions. We dont even know if this user has a need that requires a license or not. Getting a fresh start is never a bad idea.

Sorry Mate, i should have been more specific with my earlier instructions. Please delete your existing SS servers directories before installing a new one. Installing over an existing system will overwrite the package, but retain all data & settings.
Not sure what OS you are running but, if you are on windows delete C:\Subsonic
If you are on linux, here are the directories SS creates:
/etc/default/subsonic
/var/subsonic/db/
/var/subsonic/playlists/
/var/subsonic/subsonic.properties
Good luck
