Android player exit button doesn't work since last update

Since the latest update on the Android, the exit button takes me back to the now-playing page. Since I cannot exit the player (without task killing), my battery life suffers and other weird stuff happens. One example is the playback resumes after re-mounting the SD card, even if it wasn't playing before. I periodically connect my phone to my PC to transfer files in disk mode. Once I disconnect and the phone remounts the SD card, SS just starts playing, even if I haven't used SS for a few days. I also see an error in the notification bar about SS being unable to play the track "mediaplayer error 100" or something like that.

Environment info: Registered server on winXP sp3; this server instance was recently clean installed from a fresh download (maybe a week ago), Latest Android player from market, installed on a Verizon Droid Incredible, unrooted, stock VZW Android 2.2 and a recent hard reset.

I can confirm all of the mentioned behavior on my rooted froyo HTC EVO.
