LAME not installed? Oh yes it is...!

Postby Mike C. » Tue May 24, 2011 4:53 am

In the Settings | Users screen, I see this in red letters:

Notice: LAME does not seem to be installed.
Click Help button for more information.

...but it *is* installed. It's in /usr/local/bin/lame. I'm on a Mac, so my Subsonic home dir is /Library/Application Support/Subsonic. Here's what I've tried:

- copied the Lame executable to the /Library/Application Support/Subsonic directory.
- copied the Lame executable to /var/subsonic
- tried downsampling one of my MP3s from the command line, using Lame (it worked)

So apparently Subsonic doesn't understand that Lame actually does exist. Any clues? Is this a Mac-specific deal?

you need to either put the executable or a link to it in the subsonic/transcode directory.

Can you tell me the absolute path, beginning with a "/", on a Mac?

I've tried putting the executable in the following directories, with no success:

/Library/Application Support/Subsonic
/var/subsonic

I don't run a mac, but under linux it's /var/subsonic/transcode

I'd guess that's probably where it goes on a mac as well.

We will probably need more information about your setup to try and help. What OS version? Intel or PPC mac? Are you using the application or a manual install?

If you are using the Application then the path is:
/Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode/

Although that should have been created for you with the lame library in there if you installed properly from the application installer.

If you are on a PPC mac you may have problems running the application, and you will need to run the subsonic from the manual version.

The first thing I would try is download the Subsonic Mac installer and run that again. That will probably fix your problem (assuming you are on an intel mac).
