VLC Stops after 2 seconds

I have seen a few post here on this but nothing providing a solution so I post my own findings.

When connecting VLC to subsonic:
http://server:port/stream?player=2&suffix=.mp3

I can Q up a playlist and start it however VLC will stop pulling the stream in 2 seconds. Within VLC I found this error:

main debug: EOF reached

I searched around VLC forums and find others reporting similar issues with other streams they were working with and multiple answers but no clear fix. To test that this is a VLC issue with Subsonic I connected to other streams and have run them for hours on end. I then loaded up Winamp and tried to connect to the Subsonic stream to find it has no issues and will play as designed.

So what is it between Subsonic and VLC that is causing the problem?

The only issues I have with VLC is subsonic will no longer play with external player. Irritating if I don't want to use the embedded flash, but I get by.

I hope someone does have a fix for your issue tho....

Then your problem is likely the same. If you open VLC, Tools, Meesages and set it to 2 then launch the stream check the messages for something like this:

mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: Huffman data overrun
mpeg_audio debug: emulated startcode (no startcode on following frame)
main debug: EOF reached
main debug: waiting decoder fifos to empty
