Any Documentation/Noob questions

I was really hoping to find some documentation to help get me started on subsonic. I have used Vibestreamer and Orb in the past (both were very easy to setup and configure), but I am having a really hard time with Subsonic.

If there is documentation and someone could point me in the right direction, that would be great... if not, I have a few questions to start:

1. Adding music: I am unable to add any music to Subsonic. All of my music is stored on a network drive. When I try to ad this (\\TODD-DELL8200\Music_Official\Albums) as a folder the in the settings it still tells me there are no music folders found.

2. When I make any changes to the Appearance settings they do not save (how do you save changes here)?

3. In the user settings it tells me I don't have LAME installed. I do have LAME on my PC (it is in a folder called c:\Programfiles\Lame). I have been using LAME for years to code MP3s ripped from CD. How do I tell Subsonic where Lame is installed on my PC?

That is it for now... Thanks in advance for any help!

Todd

I figured out the answer to two of these questions (detail is below), but I still could not figure out how to change setting in the appearance tab in settings. If anyone could help me with saving those settings (theme, brows and playlist options, etc), that would be great.

Here are the answers to the two that I got:

1. Adding music: I am unable to add any music to Subsonic. All of my music is stored on a network drive. When I try to ad this (\\TODD-DELL8200\Music_Official\Albums) as a folder the in the settings it still tells me there are no music folders found.

You need to make sure Tomcat has access to these folders as well. To do that, go to the Tomcat configuration, in the log on Tab, select, "Use this Account" and select an account that has read access to the directories.

3. In the user settings it tells me I don't have LAME installed. I do have LAME on my PC (it is in a folder called c:\Programfiles\Lame). I have been using LAME for years to code MP3s ripped from CD. How do I tell Subsonic where Lame is installed on my PC?

lame.exe and lane_enc.dll both have to be in the C:/Windows directory. This one I should have found in the forum before asking... it has been explained before!).

Anyway, has anyone thought of creating a Wiki for this tool, I am sure it would help a lot of people (I would help, but I am just learning, so I don't think I would be too helpful at this point).

I got my last question figured out... for some reason I did not have a scroll bar in the appearance fram, so the SAVE button was hidden... on another PC I have the scroll bar. I will have to check on the first PC and see what the problem was... Anyway, all seems to work now!
