MP3 FILES play fine everywhere (browser, subair, iphone/ipad)
AAC files don't play in browser or subair
FLAC files don't play in anything.

Well, with the over abundance of information you've provided I'm sure a solution is forthcoming..

Can we get some logs from subsonic?

:)

Your comment is well justified, sorry. I was on the road at the time and was hoping it was a setting that I missed.

Log file says this for the songs I just tried:

It looks like you don't have ffmpeg in /var/subsonic/transcode

you either need a symbolic link to the executable in there, or a copy of the actual file.

Having a similar issue. Apple Lossless (M4A) does not play in the web player. The log does not give any indication:

[2011-09-10 11:30:51,935] INFO PlaylistInputStream - admin listening to "The Lady Killer\01 Lady Killer Theme (intro).m4a"

Also, I do not receive any error message. When selecting the song in the web player, it starts "downloading/caching" the song, but even after reaching 100%, it does not start playing.

Any thoughts are highly appreciated!!!

As JW player will play m4a files natively there shouldn't be a problem.
Obviously test that track does play ok in another media player then create another player in SS and try using that.
