Real slow interface

Hi All,

It seems that my interface is very very slow.
If I click in the left panel on the letter 'A', it takes like at least 90 sec. before
it opens.

I run version 4.4 (build 2172) – 6 februari 2011
Server: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_18, Windows 2003 (79,7 MB / 94,4 MB)

I thought it had something to do with the fact it didn't index everything
so I started the index again an it runs for 1 hour and 20 minutes now
handling 636GB and 101.000 songs. Is this normal or should it be faster?

The memory use is set to 1000MB limit and the interface is listening on
port 443.

System: Intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz (quad core)
Memory: 6144 MB

Connecting with a samba share on a:
System: Intel Dual Core 3.2 Ghz
Memory: 2048 MB

Those systems are connected using a Gigabit LAN.

Any idea why I've got those lags?

Is this speed of indexing acceptable?:

I asked that question quite some time ago about video. I don't have that problem with music, but with video. I was told that ffmpeg needs to scan the video files each time.
I have about 47K songs and they go pretty fast.. I don't really notice a lag.
Just on video.

Strange...well as you can see it's still scanning all my folders.
At this moment it passed 45.000 entries so..let's wait till it's done to see if the lag is gone.

I'll update this topic as soon as it's done to let you guys know.

.... could be your music files are fragmented?

Peace

So you mean that I've to defragment my MP3 storage in case it's still that laggy after it's done with the scan?

... I defrag my music store once a week, I find it helps.
This store is on a RAID5 array on a windows xp box which is shared up over GB LAN.

I just checked and I think I forgot I ever set it this way but my MP3 store is running a defrag every week as well so..that can't be it. I just let windows check that store and it show that 0% is fragmented so..should be ok.

I now can't even check if the scan is still running, it's so slow that I can't even open the webinterface :(

Maybe a restart helps but I'm afraid to because it was almost finished and maybe it has to start all over again after a reboot :(

It just finished indexing but it's damn slow..it really takes a long time to open just the songs for 'A'.

What can I do?

Would it help if I install it on the same PC where the MP3's are stored?

I have read that accessing a Samba share adds time as Windows must reconcile the differences in the file structures. moving you collection to an internal drive would probably fix the problem.

EDIT: This might help.

I've solved the problem by sorting it with every artist in his own subfolder and by streaming from the same machine where subsonic is installed.

It works like a charm :) So..donation has been send :)

Thanks all for the suggestions.
