installation issues

Postby jonsaddles » Mon Jul 04, 2011 9:15 pm

Hi all,
Firstly let me say that I am so keen to get this up & running on my system.
I have various computers all over the house & out buildings with various OS's & would dearly love to be able to access my media files from where ever I am.
The problem I am having at the moment is getting Subsonic installed on the Ubuntu 10.10 box I use as a media tank.
I have tried 4.4 & 4.5 beta but both come back with an error saying that it is a bad file & does not comply with quality standards & can not be installed.
The error seems to be that the file does not report a max file size. I have tried ignoring the warning & installing anyway but the system does not recognise that it is installed & I am not able to start/open subsonic to configure it.
I'm sure that this is just a noob issue & look forward to any help you guys can offer.
Thanks
Jon

So some further info for you guys.
Problem Description: can't install on Ubuntu 10.10
Troubleshooting Steps: tried version 4.4 & 4.5 & multiple downloads
Playback Application and version:NA
Subsonic Version:NA
Server Version:NA
Hardware Platform: Ubuntu 10.10
Java Memory Limit: NA
Problem Filename: NA
Output from ffmpeg: NA
Last ten log file line: NA
Sorry most of the lines are labelled NA but without being able to install I'm not able to post anything like a log file.
All I can say is when I try to install I get a warning telling me the file is bad and will not be installed as it does not conform to quality standards as it does not report a max file size. There is the opportunity to ignore the warning & install anyway but the system does not see the installed program & it does not appear in the installed software list in the software center.
Since then I have installed on my win7 laptop instead & Subsonic is working perfectly well. In fact I have the music folder setup across my network to access the Unbuntu machine which works fine but means I have to have 2 machines running at all times.
Hope someone will be able to help get this installed on my Ubuntu machine, as it's sole reason to be is as a media & file server.
Thanks all.

bump!

I have the same issue with 11.04. I can download the deb, but none of the other command lines get it installed. If I double click the deb itself, the software center says its already installed, but I cannot Alt +F2 and run 'subsonic'. What am I (noob) doing wrong?

Best,
R.

Ok, i solved my issue, so hopefully you all were having the same problem as me, btw i laughed hard when i realized what i had done. Anyway, in step 2 after making sure you have the correct java installed, instead of copying and pasting the terminal command, you first have to cd to the directory where you downloaded .deb package, which i was doing, but what i was not doing is looking at the command: "sudo dpkg -i subsonic-x.x.deb" the x.x is whatever the name of your package is, don't just copy and paste into terminal it will not work and you get the error message we are all describing. In my case i am running Ubuntu 11.04 so my command looked like this "sudo dpkg -i subsonic-4.5.beta1.deb Hope this works for you as well.

Good Luck
