Save Playlist Menu Item Does Not Exist

Problem Description: I'm having trouble with playlists on a PC with Windows 7. After I failed to successfully install Subsonic on my Ubuntu partition I've been running the full version after donation fine through Windows but I cannot create or save playlists.

Troubleshooting Steps: I've read up on other users issues and understand that Subsonic looks at the C:\PLAYLISTS for playlist files.

I created test playlists in MediaMonkey and encountered the same problem that other users had - the playlist comes up blank in Subsonic due to an issue with relative paths instead of absolute paths in the .m3u files.

If I log into Subsonic 4.4 build 2172 on my desktop PC (administrative or otherwise) using Firefox 3.6.18 or IE and queue any songs I cannot save a playlist because there is no option under the "More Actions" drop down menu to save.

The options are:

LOAD
Sort by track
Sort by album
Sort by artist
SELECTED SONGS
Select all
Select none
Remove

Alternatively, if I queue tracks through Subsonic 2.9.2 on my Droid X and try to save a playlist I get the following message:

"Failed to save playlist. Please try again later. Innerspaceboy is not authorized to create playlists."

The ideal fix would be a way to quick-convert all relative paths to absolute paths in my existing .m3u files, but I'll take any solution at this point.

Can anyone please help me get the most out of this wonderful app?

Playback Application and version: 2.9.2
Subsonic Version: 4.4 build 2172
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_24, Windows 7 (73.9 MB / 96.7 MB)
Hardware Platform: Windows 7
Java Memory Limit: 100

I don't use Plasylists a whole lot, but I have begun noticing problems with it lately. I created a test playlist not too long ago while researching another problem and after your post I went back to load it. CLASSIC FAIL It disn't load anything on the first attempt but did on the second try. I have reports from other users of the same problem. Strangely, the first attempt to load the playlist reported it as empty, the second attempt loaded it. I'll do some more testing to see if I can figure out what's going on.

Subsequent testing on my other sites shows the same problem. I've submnitted a bug report to Sindre, so if anyone else has any input, please post any relevant information here, as I've already sent Sindre a link to this thread.

Thanks so much for the speedy reply, and for your help with the other question I had posted when I'd just started with Subsonic.

What puzzles me most is why the "save" option is missing from my version of the Web interface. I've seen screen snapshots from other users' Subsonic tutorials where it is clearly visible from the "more options" pulldown.

If anyone can verify which version of the software has the save option I'll give it a try.

And I'll stay tuned for your findings!

I'm not sure which screen you're refering to. Can you provide a link to the screenshot or give a more acurate description of how to get to the screen you're talking about.

Save option suddenly appears and then vanishes

The strangest thing happened this evening - I logged into the Web interface to take a screen snapshot of the pull-down menu where "Save" was missing... and it was suddenly there! It stayed for about a half hour before disappearing, long enough for me to save about 7,500 of my favorite tracks into 5 genre-based playlists.

I logged in and out a few times to make sure and it stayed there until 5 minutes ago - I've taken a screen snapshot to show you how the menu looks 99% of the time. (Take note of the "More actions" menu at the bottom right.)

Am I the only one experiencing this bizarre situation?

Also - I tried loading the newly saved playlists on my Droid X. They work PERFECTLY. But if I load them through the Web interface, the list appears blank. The trick is to load a list, and then click the pull-down menu shown in my snapshot, then re-sort the tracks (by artist, title, or album.) The whole list will magically appear. Then just click "undo" to restore the order of your tracks.

Can anyone help me get the "save" item to stay on the drop-down menu?

The solution

I've figured it out.

1) Logged in as "admin"

2) Clicked "settings" and "users"

3) Select User: innerspaceboy

4) Add a checkmark beside "User is allowed to create and delete playlists."

5) Click "save."

*Sigh of relief.*
