Timeout before listing entries in remote folder

Postby louischatillon » Sat Jul 09, 2011 2:33 pm

<-------------------------Subsonic Help Request---------------------->
Problem Description: When selecting a folder that is remote, it takes between 8 seconds and 1:20 seconds before the files gets listed.
Playback Application and version: Firefox 3.6.18 and Android 2.9.2
Subsonic Version: 4.4 (build 2172) – February 6, 2011
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_26, Windows 2003 (95.3 MB / 145.7 MB)
Hardware Platform: 2 x (Windows 2003 32bits SP2, 2Gb RAM, Dual Core 2Gz+, Hardware RAID 1) One has Subsonic installed on it. Both servers are on the same GB switch running at GB speed.
Java Memory Limit: 300MB but only between 96MB and 58MB is used.
Problem Filename: Seems to be with big video files.
Last ten log file lines: I did my tests at 9:15am and the logs files show info about "Failed to create thumbnail" at 9am so I'm disregarding them.
<-------------------------Subsonic Help Request---------------------->

When I select a folder that is local, listing is shown right away. When I select a folder that is on my other server, it can take between 8sec & 1:20secs with the average being 50 secs before listing shows. Keep in mind that I'm talking about videos.

I did some testing and I think it has to do with how big the files are and not on how many there are. I did some repeated test and it's always about the same time it takes to display the files.

When I'm using the actual Subsonic server it just long but when I use my android phone over Wi-Fi or 3G, I get timeout and that is preventing me from watching my videos.

How can I speed things up?
Is there a setting I can change so Subsonic keep the index in RAM?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did more research and could it be because Subsonic checks all the files in the folders to check them for some reason?

If true what is the purpose of that and can it be disabled?
