CPU load remains at high Level

Postby wannabe_nerd » Thu Jul 14, 2011 6:38 am

Hi Guys,

I think the topic already says it: every time someone is logged on to my ss-server and plays some music or watches a movie the CPU - working load remains at a high level even if the user isn't logged in anymore. Recently I found my server-CPU working at 100% load without any user logged in.

In all these cases ffmpeg was is responsible for the CPU-load. Sometimes even several instances of ffmpeg were running while no one was logged in and caused any transcoding work.

So my question is: is there any way to tell subsonic or ffmpeg, that the transcoding should stop if nobody is logged in?

solved!!!

I think i solved my problem. It is the search index creation which causes these ffmpeg task running. As sindre himself said in another topic he uses ffmpeg to read the metadata of the files or something like that.
Well I noticed that my search index has problems with my videofiles which causes a crash of the search index-creator every time when the automatic index creation tries to index my videofiles.

The solution is simple but not very clever or sophisticated: I disabled the automatic index creation and every time I want to update the index I disable the videopaths and create the index manually.

That is interesting as I have both on my site and haven't had any issues with the search index. Can you determine what is actually happening during this auto search index? Is it error'ing out on certain video types or all of them?

Your subsonic.log should have this information. Would be nice if we could get this working so you don't have to manually do any kind of search update.

Thanks

Hi ,

yes i have checked the log and posted the results in another topic here in this forum : http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtop ... highlight=

as you can see in the logs there is no real error message during the serach-index-creation but the search index just stopps at ca 13000 entries and the ffmpeg-tasks a runnig until i restart subsonic. The search index is kind of broken after that but all this is discribed in the treat i posted above^^

Hi.

i can confirm this problem, if i remove my video folder from path (many videos, big files (hd content etc.)), the problem of having a process with 100% hanging dissapear.

maybe this can be fixed on new release.

regards,
dd
