WAP on mobile phone - just get XML code

Hi guys,

I have a perfectly working subsonic server on my Windows machine. I can access it from outside the network without problem.

Subsonic says, "Mobile phone: You can control Subsonic from any WAP-enabled mobile phone or PDA. Simply visit the following URL from your phone: http://yourhostname/wap"

However, when I visit that location from my smartphone [HTC Legend running Android 2.2] instead of a GUI I'm given a bunch of XML code. I am able to use subsonic through the Android App just fine, but shouldn't this "yourhostname/wap" thing work too?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have the same thing. Have you tried any other browsers, like Opera?

Just tried it with the Opera browser and it works. I can't stand the UI, but it does work.

I'm going to stick with the subsonic android app, which I think is fantastic.

If you look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_A ... n_Protocol

You will see that WAP was created so that text-based "browsers" could get slightly enriched content. In that tween time between a cell phone being just a cell phone and a cell phone being a full PC (or damn close to it) there were phones that had very basic "web" capabilities, and they worked because they had a WAP browser built in and could access WAP interfaces on web sites.

Mostly useless in today's modern-day-full-browser-in-your-pocket world.

HTH,

Glenn

Everything works, but I won't bother with it. I'm going to stick with the android app.
