Cannot connect from outside

So, I installed Subsonic on my Win7 box on port 8080. It works from http://localhost:8080/ and it works from other systems on the LAN, if I surf over by http://-IP-:8080.

However, I can't seem to get from the outside in. I have Comcast Business Class service with a static IP. I have already setup port forwarding for SMTP, IMAP, HTTP, etc. I am familiar with how to set these things up.

I added a rule to port forward any inbound port 8080 to my machine at 8080, but when I try to access it from outside, by public static IP or domain name, via browser or iPhone app, it doesn't work.

I do have Norton 360 on this machine, but I have disabled the firewall completely while debugging.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Go to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ enter your SS port number and click the Check box to be sure the Subsonic port is open.

I ran a port scanner, and although all the common ports show for things like SMTP, HTTP and such, I get no response from Subsonic. However, Subsonic is working.

I was wondering if people might share common pitfalls I seem to have overlooked...

TIA

It's hard to offer much help when you haven't reported the results from canyouseeme.org.

Go to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ enter your SS port number (8080) and click the Check box to be sure the Subsonic port is open.

Error: I could not see your service on 75.148.78.190 on port (8080)
Reason: Connection timed out

Then your router is NOT set up properly and is not passing 8080 to the internal ip address where SS is set up.

http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4867

Refer to your router's manual to forward 8080 to the internal ip of the computer hosting Subsonic.

You'll never get to Subsonic from outside until you can get the port to respond at Canyouseeme.org.

Well, I have port forwarding setup on the router.

My system is on an internal, static IP.

And, just to be complete:

Where should I look next?

I'm reading it now. Port forwarding is almost an art on some routers - not intuitive at all. On my Verizon router you specify any incoming port. I'll look at the docs. Also yopu only need to fwd TCP, but that's probably not the problem.

Also, if there are any forward rules already set, look at them for clues that may help.

It looks like you did it right, but it hasn't gone into effect. Open the router again and verify that the settings were saved and still entered in the table. If all looks right, then shut the router down for a min. then restart. Sometimes a reboot fixes this sort of thing.

One other question: Are there any other devices or switches on the network, such as a VOIP unit that may be firewalling or double NATing?

If all that's a no, then the only other area to look would be the firewall settings on the host PC.

Ahhrrg! I hate it when it's this simple! So bittersweet! :)

Normally, I don't have to restart the modem, but when I did this time, it worked.

Thanks a lot.
