Songs stop after a few seconds

Hi, thanks for fantastic software!

I'm running Subsonic on a Ubuntu server, and recently upgraded to 4.5.beta2, after getting an annoying popup everytime anyone logged in - just saying "Error".

Yesterday it resurfaced, and today I startet getting problems with playing certain tracks.

They start, and play 4-5 seconds before stopping.
The log output is:
INFO StreamController Got range: Range[3999541,3999541] ( Numbers obviously change)

I changed the filename slightly (adding an underscore) and loaded the album again - song plays without problem.
Renamed back to original, same problem.

I then updated to 4.5 - and the "Error" message disappeared. There has NOT been any changes on either the server running the Subsonic service, or the fileserver. Both run updated Ubuntu Server. Files belong to root, with 0777 permission.

But the songs still keep stopping at a few seconds. It seems inconsistant, because I played the album which gave the error 3-4 times today before it happened.
Thought maybe you had gone all Spotify on me, putting in a maximum number of allowed plays ;)

Switching to a new computer helps, rebooting the computer did not help. I'm using Win7 with Google Chrome, Vista with Chrome and Linux Mint with Chrome.

Any way past this? It's getting extremely annoying to have to download the songs before I can play them...

I get this with Chrome on windows occasionally. 1st try to clear the browser cache and refresh page.
If that doesnt help delete the jetty cache (where that is on your system I dunno)
but on windoze its in c:/subsonic/jetty/xxxx/jsp/org/apache/jsp/delete what is here
Dont forget to stop SS first then restart.

If that doesn't work play the cd

Thank you! I'll try that.

That's sort of why I use Subsonic, I don't have a CD-player. I buy mainly LPs, downloading the mp3s or ripping to FLAC.
When I buy CDs I rip those from my computer, and put them on the server

At home I play using XBMC. At work and on the road I use Subsonic.

So when that stops working my life is in shambles ;)

I've tried that a few times now, clearing the cache in the browser. Does no good at all.
Not clearing cache, not clearing cache on server.
And even if it HAD worked, I can't mess around with logging in to the server and deleting cache there whenever this happens, that's really something for the developer to fix.

It's really getting so annoying I've started looking around for options. I've even been using Crappify these last days.

Looking forward to a fix for this.

This is from trying to play a song that failed yesterday.

I'm using Chrome.

Code: Select all
[02.09.11 11:57:19 CEST]   INFO   StreamController   Got range: Range[10029055,10029055]
[02.09.11 11:57:19 CEST]   INFO   PlaylistInputStream   rune listening to "The Steel Wheels, Live at Goose Creek/13 Blueridge Mountains_Honey Bear_Hangman's Reel.mp3"
[02.09.11 11:57:19 CEST]   INFO   StreamController   Got range: Range[10029055,10029055]
[02.09.11 11:57:19 CEST]   INFO   PlaylistInputStream   rune listening to "The Steel Wheels, Live at Goose Creek/13 Blueridge Mountains_Honey Bear_Hangman's Reel.mp3"

As I said in the start, if I rename the song it plays nicely. Name it back to the original: same problem.

Same song plays nicely in IE.

It's not an option using another browser though. Chrome is what I have, and what I use. It needs to work there.

ANy progress on this?

It's getting utterly annoying. Chrome has been updated twice since this started, Java once. Still happens. It can happen to two songs in a row, and then the rest of the album plays nicely.

Have you tried the newest 4.6 beta 2 version?

According to this:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8193&start=60#p33555

Sindre found a bug that sounds like what you are experiencing.

That post was before the latest beta was released, and that release included this note:
Code: Select all
Bugfix: Don't estimate content-length for web players.

I've Chrome 15.0.874.121 , and this is the /help.view?:
Versione 4.6 (build 2583) – 6 dicembre 2011
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0, Windows XP (42,0 MB / 47,4 MB)

i've already deleted the cache in c:/subsonic/jetty/xxxx/jsp/org/apache/jsp/delete what is here, but without success.

if you need more info, ask me ...

thanks for your time

EDIT:

i've noticed that the same songs with admin account work fine. maybe, the problem is related to the privileges?
Here my query :
SELECT * FROM user_role
USERNAME ROLE_ID

admin 2
admin 3
admin 4
admin 5
admin 6

Try increasing your memory limit via control panel/settings
I would suggest 256MB.

Done 256MB, but no results.

Code: Select all

Same problem with admin account but on different songs.

This happens to me every once in a while while using Google Chrome. I clear the browser contents (cache) and everything works like it should.
It usually happens when I played a song a lot and didn't let it finish before clicking on it again. (I do this when I am testing.)

Same problem with new version.

I can get passed the problem by changing to a different player, and "Play All" again - then choosing the song with problems.

And like ytechie I've noticed that this is the same case with me - if I don't let a song finish, and start it again - this happens.

I have exactly the same issue. Cleared the cache within Chrome, tried the fix from ytechie but unfortunately no luck.
Have switched off transcoding, also made no difference.
With Chrome, continue to have these problems whereas with FF & IE i do not have this problem.
So if there is another solution, I would love to hear
