Help: no ape files shown

Postby Dip » Sat Aug 27, 2011 9:07 pm

Hello,

i'm new here, so please forgive me, when i ask something which is obvious for you. But i really tried to find an answer for my problem in this forum here.

I've got a music library, where most files are ape files (single files). I figured out to get subsonic up and running on a Mac Mini 10.5, MacBook Pro 10.6 and a Windows XP PC (standalone and application). I can see in the browser and and i can stream mp3 and flac files. But whatever i do i can't see any of my ape files in the album's track list. But i can transcode them in the command line with ffmpeg.

Can anyone help me?

Technical infos:
My music library:
1.738 folder
858 mp3 files
34.102 ape files
1.141 flac files
2.349 jpg files
821 GB data

folder structure:
Artist/Album/tracks
or
Artist/tracks

Problem Description and troubleshooting:
It seems, that my mac installations of subsonic are not able to parse my .ape files.

I can see and play any albums and tracks in flac and mp3 format but the server does not see any tracks of my albums containing ape files.

Beginning with the index frame (left hand side frame in the browser) my client shows:

173 artists
507 albums
2,042 songs
66.57 GB (~ 1,034 hours)

Below it shows the alphabetical list of the albums which contains approx. 1.600 albums (or more), so here is the first place where i can see that somethings is wrong on the server side. If i add the numbers found by "find . -name '*.mp3' -type f | wc -l" and "find . -name '*.flac' -type f | wc -l" i do get 2006 songs, which is close to 2.042 found by the subsonic server. But i'm missing more than 34.000 ape files. If i click in the list on an album containing mp3 or flac files the frame on the right shows the track list and clicking on a track regardless if it is mp3 or flac the player starts playing. But if i click on an album containing ape files no tracks are shown, only the cover art (the log file says nothing in this moment).

Because the transcoding and the player is working for flac files and the transcoding for ape files by hand in the terminal works fine (see below) it seems to be a problem on the server side parsing the ape files. To eliminate the PPC Mac as the problem i tried an installation on a MacBook Pro with the same result, not showing any ape files. To be sure i started indexing several times by hand which says:

Wherever the number of 6.667 comes from, it doesn't seem to be quite right.

Playback Application and version:
JW Player 5.6.1768 (default bundled subsonic browser player)

Subsonic Version:

MacBook Pro: 4.5 (build 2384) – August 10, 2011

Server Version:

MacBook Pro: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_26, Mac OS X (41.3 MB / 81.1 MB)

Hardware Platform:
Mac Mini G4 PPC, 1,5 GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.5.8 Server
MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2,53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.6.8

Java Memory Limit:
Don't know where to find on a Mac.

Output from ffmpeg -i:

For my Mac Mini i first tried to copy the ffmpeg and lame binaries out of /Library/Application Support/Subsonic/transcode into /var/subsonic/transcode but figured out, that this binaries are no fat binaries and do not run on my PPC with Mac OS X 10.5. So i downloaded fat versions from the internet (i can't remember but i believe it was http://ffmpegmac.net/ and http://www.thalictrum.com/software/LAME ... 0.2.dmg.gz).

Re: Help: no ape files shown

Postby BKKKPewsey » Sat Aug 27, 2011 9:22 pm

Have you selected ape within the music mask (Settings/General) ?

(A short reply to a long post :) )
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, Image but some abuse the privilege!

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.
