Subsonic Forum

Hi guys!

First of all, thank you!! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! Since I discovered Subsonic, it has made my (music-)life problemless! Untill now that is..

My problem is that I suddenly cannot connect to my Subsonic server. This came over the night, and I have no idea what happened! I have the latest version installed, and a license registered. It runs on a Ubuntu Server 11.04 x64 with all current updates installed, and latest official kernel.
After this problem occurred, I have uninstalled and reinstalled subsonic, as well as openjdk. When doing a "sudo service subsonic start" I get a PID number and a notification that subsonic is running. I have other services that I can connect to without problems, such as ssh and transmission.

I would really like some help trying to figure this out, as I am completely out of ideas on where to look next....

UPDATE: I tried to change the port Subsonic listens to from 4040 to 34555. When trying to connect I now get the following response:

Have you tried a clean install?
Delete your subsonic folder then re-install BUT remember that will delete all your settings eg. users, licence etc.
You could try to delete all within the \db directory except subsonic.script which may save your settings but no guarantees

Hi, and thanks for answering!

Now I have tried to first uninstall Subsonic with "apt-get autoremove subsonic", and then identifying any leftovers with "locate subsonic"... I then deleted any file and/or folder related to subsonic. After this I downloaded and installed subsonic from the start. Still same result. Still getting Webpage not available... The server is in a remote location, but set up as a dmz, and as I said, all other services are connectable....

Please help?

EXACT same problem here. Running Debian Sid. Updated to latest version, Subsonic looks like it's running happily, no errors in the log, but I can't connect to it, either from outside or from the machine itself using localhost. I have it running on port 4040, and everything but subsonic is working fine. Even tried downgrading back to 4.4, but no dice!

Anyone with any tips on how to solve this?

I am getting the same error. No issues connecting from a remote location with tightvnc or other remote programs. Used to be able to connect remotely with subsonic. installed latest version. Can connect locally to subsonic through tightvnc on local computer. Have registered subsonic.org domain name and version. Port says it is forwarded properly and a successfully registered web address, but the site does not resolve as it should. I have tried reinstalling back to a previous version but might try that unless someone has am alternative solution. This looks to be new with latest release from what I can tell. Thoughts?

What system are you running ChiMatt? Ubuntu/Debian as well? Has there been any recent updates to any dependencies that Subsonic rely on? I have been using Subsonic for some time without problems, also the 4.5 version... But maybe thare has been other changes that makes Subsonic malfunction on an Ubuntu/Debian-system?

Are you guys also 64bit? Do you have all updates installed? Any recent changes to the java installation?

Can you think of any other dependencies or system specific changes that may be relevant?

Just a thought.... Do you guys have Port Forwarding enabled? I mean the upnp setting within Subsonic?

I'm running debian 64-bit, and yes, I'd just recently apt-get upgraded the packages on my machine, so java might have been included in that. I then downloaded the 4.5 .deb package and installed that. After that, it refused to connect either remotely or on localhost. I tried using the IP directly, the hostname, as well as hitting localhost via lynx and opening firefox directly on the server by way of a vnc session. No dice. No idea if the upnp stuff is set up...which config file would I find that in?

Let me know what else I could provide to help troubleshoot. Subsonic is kinda my primary access to my media, so I miss it!

You have to look in the log files (in /var/subsonic) for diagnosis.

For example, the problem described in the original post by Magnus is either:

a) Two instances of Subsonic running.
b) Obsolete lock file (/var/subsonic/db/subsonic.lck)

Make sure Subsonic is not running, delete the lock file and try again.

Thanks for the input here.

I just cd´ed into /var/subsonic/db/ but there is no .lck-file there. Could it be in another folder?

Which of the logs (subsonic.log/subsonic_sh.log) is the most interesting one?

Also, I´m no expert, but it looks to me as there is only one instance of Subsonic running... How can I confirm this?

I just did a completely fresh OS reinstall on my server, newesst Ubuntu x64. I forgot to install openjdk-6-jre at first, and it failed there...so I installed that, and subsonic was running like a charm and I was a happy camper. Then I changed some settings, was futzing with some other stuff, and I restarted subsonic again. Now I'm getting the same behavior as before. It just doesn't act like there's anything running or being served on that port. Even if I try to connect with the IP or from localhost, nothing. I'm really puzzled. I have no .lck file there either and there's definitely only one copy of subsonic running. :-/

Meh, I tried changing the user under which it was running in /var/default/subsonic and then followed the instructions for changing ownership of the files/directories as noted. At first blush, it didn't seem to work, but then I tried localhost, and it did...so I tried the remote connection, and it did as well. I guess I'm good...I'm just kinda scared to restart it now :-

What user is it set up to run as now?

Hmmm... I don´t have a /var/default folder??? I do however have a /etc/default folder?
