'Now Playing' displays incorrect user

Hello,

I've seen a post or two about people having issues with the 'Now Playing' area showing the wrong user. I am also having this problem and it is a big pain that I hope can be resolved quickly.

I have about 20 users, about a third of which login from behind the same firewall. I know that probably doesn't make much of a difference, but I thought I would mention it. It is not uncommon for every single user who logs in to display incorrectly. I have tried deleting all the players and flushing the browser cache and logging back in, but the problem just reoccurs on the next login.

Has anyone finally resolved this issue?

Here is the setup:

Linux slag 2.6.32-31-server #61-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 8 19:44:42 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

java-6-openjdk 1061 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk

Version 4.4 (build 2169) – February 6, 2011

jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_20, Linux (68.8 MB / 88.2 MB)

No replies yet?

I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this bug.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I'd say the developer has shown that he doesn't really care to respond to issues here.

Clear the browser cache and the Java cache - it will fix the problem.

Yes - this will work very temporarily, however with 20+ users, this fix does not scale.

Ampache, here I come.

Just a +1 to the comment that with 4.4, for the first time, I've been having the similar issue of the wrong user showing in the Now Playing section. I did delete all players, stopped/restarted tomcat, then had users go in and start listening again --- but to no avail. Interestingly, the correct user displays when typing something in the Chat area -- it seems the issue is very-specifically restricted to the Player/"Now Playing" aspects.

One person suggested wiping the DB, but that is not an option as I don't want to lose all the usernames/pwds, user statistics, or especially all the album reviews and ratings I've done over the past year or two.

Appears this is a known issue however, as per Gary's comment, so we'll patiently cheer for v4.5. The bug really isn't a performance issue at all, anyways -- it just confuses the users (and eliminates my ability to know who logged in and listened to music, etc.)

Cheers,

There's no doubt it's a bug, but it's just one of many issues that are on Sindre's plate. I know that whichever bug bugs you the most is the one that you think deserves the most attention. In my experience, Sindre has always been aware of the comments on the boards and usually makes notes of things that he wants to fix.

I strill can't think of ANY product where the users are as listened to as they are here. If you want a good example, just go to the Silicon Dust HD Homerun Prime forum to look at the comments from the group that has been waiting over a year for that little piece of vaporware that they just announced that they'll be taking pre-orders for that MAY ship after Juy 1st.

And those blokes are lining up to pay $250 a pop or more for the thing.

I really get a chuckle out of the users who begrudgingly cough up a Starbucks run for SS and then think that the Dev should treat them like their most favored client.

Yeah there's a few bugs, but Sindre pays attention and addresses many known issues based on USER feedback with each release.

Until he gets to your favorite bug, put on some tunes and chill.

Couldn't possibly agree more -- as I always tell the complainers who feel they're "owed" bugfixes and updates... when you donate, you are doing so out of the goodness of your heart for what Sindre has ALREADY created, not for what one expects him to do in the future. SS has really become so refined that any bugs like this one we're discussing here are so small in the big picture as to be mostly inconsequential.

I just really hope Sindre looks past the few whingers and knows that the vast vast majority of us are beyond appreciative. And you're right -- most everything Sindre does is directly due to user feedback as opposed to his own whims (although most of his whims have usually been pretty damn good stuff!)

On a related note, re: this bug -- I do believe I have found a resolution. Here's the route I took:

user "Eric" kept seeing "Dan" in the Now Playing section -- I tried deleting all players, but when Eric played a song after i restarted SS, it would still show as "Dan".

So... I looked at the players and saw which one was "Dan" -- in this case, Player 2 (player 1 was me, the admin). I deleted all the players, restarted SS, then I played a song as myself (admin) which recreated Player 1 correctly.

Then... I logged out of SS and logged back in as "Dan", and played a song. BAM! Just like that, "Dan" was added to the Player list, but as Player 3. SS automatically created Player 2 as "Eric" -- since somehow it had that info stored/cached somewhere.

Indeed when Eric plays a song now, it correctly shows as "Eric". I couldn't say for sure this will always fix it for everyone else, but it's worth a shot.

Hehe, elusive fix indeed. I'll just stay confused til 4.5 then. I'm almost used to this now since 4.4 came out^^

And yes, SS is great and if it wouldnt be there I wouldnt know what to do with my "server farm" ;-)

Hi there, I am using the latest version of Subsonic in Win 7 and I have observed the following behaviour:

- User x is playing music
- User y is being shown as playing in the now playing screen in Subsonic
- User y is set up to scrobble plays to last.fm and the music listened to by user x is scrobbled to the last.fm account of user y

This happens just sometimes (randomly) and the only way I can fix it is by going to Settings>Players and deleting all the players saved there.

Not sure if this has been reported before, I made a search and was not able to find it.

Any ideas? Please let me know if you need anything else from me, like a log, etc.

Version 4.5 (build 2385) – August 11, 2011
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_26, Windows 7 (188.7 MB / 290.0 MB)

Yep this is a known problem and has been reported before. :(
I can sometimes cure the problem by deleting the jetty cache but other times only by deleting either the offending users or players :?
If someone knows of a way of curing the problem please post cause its very annoying when it happens especially when it happens to MY account  (I cannot remember listening to that! )

Hmmm. Let´s see if this can be fixed.

How do you delete the cache that you mention?

May I remind all users that the forum does have a search function - you will find the answer in the 2nd post there.

Cheers, just found it.

I was using the search earlier with Now Playing Wrong User and I was getting no results, so I just assumed it was not working well, but 'delete jetty cache' did return the right result. I will post here in case someone has this issue as this fixed it for me:

1. Delete all the contents in C:\subsonic\jetty\XXXX\jsp\org\apache\jsp where XXXX is a number that may be different in each PC
2. Stop Subsonic and Restart
