mp4 streaming (without transcode)

Hi,

Quick question (not really Subsonic but JWPlayer) - when I stream an mp4 directly without ffmpeg transcoding the player waits to download the entire video before playing it. Is that normal? Can the player not play mp4 files as they are being downloaded (i.e. stream them)? Do I have to convert to FLV to have the ability to stream?

It's just a little annoying waiting for the vwhole ideo to download into the player when I could start watching it straight away.

Hmm.. just spotted the Handbrake option "web optimzed" - that's probably what I need.

I've never found any of my videos needing to load completely, If it's really high quality, like a 4gb file, then I leave it loading for like 3 minutes while the transcode catches up.

edit: looks like you're right, i disabled MP4 transcoding, some MP4 video loads on the fly, whereas others wait until its finished before it will play. I am using Bigasoft MP4 Converter.

edit2: I am trying it in Handbrake with web optimized setting and see how that works.

edit3: original file was MKV about 1.3gb, after transcoding with handbrake to web optimized settings, it's about 800mb, and great quality. and is playing in subsonic immediately with no interruptions or buffering issues.
