Song length incorrect

Postby JBDive » Sat Sep 24, 2011 5:22 am

I have a song, an audio book to be correct, that Subsonic is reporting as only 10 mins long as well as in all players (web, android) the track scroll bar keeps up and moves along to 10 mins however the track is actually 5 hours long. So far it appears Subsonic will keep on playing way past the reported 10 mins however since this ausiobook is one long mp3 I need to be able to scroll to the point I last stopped and I can't.

I played the mp3 in VLC and it reports the file length correctly.

Is there something screwy with the mp3 or is Subsonic freaking at a 5hour mp3?

As the longest track I have in my arsenal is about 1 hr 40min which is reported ok can you test to see at what length the reporting breaks down.
As for a cure buy the book :D

As I said at about 10 mins, like 10:20 to be exact is where the reported time breaks although it continues playing I assume until the end. VLC playing the file directly shows the correct time and time bar, haven't tried VLC as a player via Subsonic but I assume it would also show just 10:20 since that is what Subsonic is showing.

Not saying it's subsonic that is screwing up here, it could be the file but need some direction to say one way or the other.

Sorry you misunderstood - we need to find out how big a file (in length/time) that SS starts screwing up
As you said a single 5hr track is very rare but does it report ok with say a 3 hr track?
We need to find out if this a SS problem or just something wrong with that particular file.

Problem File
88 MB
5:08 hr
40 kbps
Player control and time indicator stop at 10 mins and some odd seconds

Second file (kind of a problem)
330 MB
6:02 hr
128 kbps
Player control and time indicator show 362 mins., control bar moves as media plays however if you try to skip ahead to around 200+ mins it tends to reset back to 0:00 although I have played past 200 mins. Also time to load media is very slow, a minute or more, and may freeze.

There does seem to be some issue with Subsonic and longer files, maybe memory starved in trying to prep the buffer however that does not address the initial problem file where the time is totally off. I'd re-encode but at 40kbps already, yuck.

With regard to first file try converting it to a higher bitrate say 64k or 96k. I have seen problems before on this forum regarding very low bitrate mp3's.
Worth a shot!

I had a similar issue in this thread : http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6895

It was a problem with some codec and/or bitrates. A re-coding was needed to be fixed.
