Help with transcoding performance please

Hello, I am looking for help with transcoding.

set up:
AMD be-350 APU
4 gigs ram
Win7
12MB down 2MB up


When transcoding it is peaking my cpu and playback is choppy. To play 1080p mkv files locally I need to use gpu acceleration, no problem and works great. I am having a hard time finding info on how to gpu accelerate transcoding in subsonic so I can get smooth playback. I figure I wont get 1080p but 720p content is also choppy at the moment. My buddies p4 machine is streaming smoothly.
