[SOLVED] Unable to search for songs

Postby salbahra » Tue Oct 18, 2011 12:38 am

Hello,

I have been using Subsonic in conjunction with iSub for a while now and absolutely love the software! However, I noticed a problem I have had since probably day 1 but unable to remedy and it is finally starting to annoy me. I am unable to search for songs specifically. Everything else works JUST fine but the search results only show albums and artists. I am sure it is a configuration problem somewhere so but not sure where. I increased the max memory from 100MB to 512MB in hopes that was the issue but still no avail. I would appreciate any help in this matter and thank you again for such amazing software!

Edit: To clarify the issue is on SubSonic's native website as well as iSub and any other 3rd party interfaces. Basically, no where am I able to search by song titles.

What is your directory structure?
It needs to be artist\album\tracks
If you have this configuration in a folder called music for example then you point SS at the music folder.
Also check your track tags are configured correctly.

Thank you for the quick reply! My music is in exactly this structure and my ID3 tags are almost all correct. When I open the albums in SubSonic it sees all of the song names properly. There is literally never a time when it has been able to find a song even if I verify a song has a proper ID3 tag etc and I search it nothing comes up.

Can you confirm the following:-

So for an example: If you search for say "pink"
You would get say
  • Artists: Pink Floyd , Pink Fairies, etc
  • Albums: Under the Pink (Tori Amos). Pink Moon (Nick Drake) etc
  • Songs: Nothing

In the left frame you have Artists listed in alphabetical order and not albums

Correct but I found a fix! After I changed the memory limit I re-ran the scan and now songs show up! Thanks again sorry for the trouble.

For anyone else: Just update your memory to 512MB then re-scan your library.

Note

Yes a too low Java memory limit can and will cause a number of issues however the size requirement all depends on the size of your library and also your OS etc.
If you look at your logs or at your server info in the about screen any possible problems can be spotted easily.

This is why we request that you read How to Ask for Help and answer as much as possible.
Problems like the above can then be solved much easier.
