Hello folks. I've searched several posts regarding the default upload directory in SS and have yet to find an answer that makes sense to me. I am currently running SS 4.5 (build 2385) on a Windows Home Server OS. Everything is set up perfectly, except for the fact that I cannot change the default upload directory. For some reason, SS has chosen to use the "incoming" directory inside of the very first music folder I added on my initial setup. Here is an example of my folder structure:

D:\Shares\Music\60's\60's Rock
D:\Shares\Music\60's\60's Soft Rock
D:\Shares\Music\70's\70's Rock
D:\Shares\Music\70's\70's Soft Rock
D:\Shares\Music\Alternative
D:\Shares\Music\Country

and so on. The default upload directory was initially set to D:\shares\Music\60's\60's Rock\Incoming by SS, which is not what I want to use. I created another folder after the fact called D:\Shares\Music\Uploads and this is what I want to use, but I also don't want it to show up in the folder list for the users to access. I've tried to change it, but it keeps defaulting back to the original folder. Also, unless I add and enable the D:\Shares\Music\Uploads folder under Settings, I get a permission denied error when I try to upload.

In summary, here is what I am trying to accomplish:

1. Change the default upload (or incoming) directory permanently.
2. Do not allow this directory to appear to users under the folder list.
3. Make it read-only to users so they cannot change the default path, only the administrator.

Can this be done? I've read a few posts about editing the more.jsp file but those posts were made years ago, and I want to know if that information is still relevant. Any help is appreciated!

I can confirm that your discoveries are quite correct
I spent a number of fruitless hours trying to do what you are trying without modding.

SS will default to use the first enabled media folder.
So you cannot stop users from playing new unsorted songs or even worse you cannot stop them changing the default directory.

I am having the same issue. The information that I found was circa 2008 and referred to line 129 of some jsp file that I could not find on my subsonic machine. Did you ever get a solution to this? Or any additional information?

So after some more searching was able to locate:

..\subsonic\jetty\2583\webapp\WEB-INF\jsp\more.jsp

line 138 of this file has the following

<td><input type="text" id="dir" name="dir" size="37" value="${model.uploadDirectory}"/></td>

so i guess what Im wondering is can I just change that ${model.uploadDirectory} to the folder I want to default to?

Thanks for sharing I had completely forgot about this thread.
I will test and if it works ok I will be able to give some of my users upload rights again
