Subsonic Downloading to Android Phone Slow

Postby species8472jj » Wed Nov 02, 2011 4:29 pm

My music was originally housed on my local drive, and when that was the case, Subsonic worked fine.

I recently moved all my music to an NAS, and that is when the problems seemed to start occurring. When I try to access music from my phone, I get "retries" and many times, it just ends up in a network error. What I've noticed, is if I choose a particular artist with a smaller number of songs, it comes up, but if if I choose an artist was a lot of songs, it almost always times out resulting in an error.

I just installed the latest version 4.6 beta 1 hoping that the problem would be fixed. I saw nothing referring to that in the release notes, but I figured it was worth a try.

I looked on these forums, and I know that people have had similar issues, however, I could not find a solution. If someone posted a solution, I am sorry for being redundant and asking. I have tried for quite some time to troubleshoot this problem to no avail.

If anyone could offer some help and/or advice, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Ideally you need SS running on the same pc as the music so can you install SS on the NAS?

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

SS is on a Windows 7 PC. My music is on a NAS. Please excuse me if I seem dense, but are you suggesting I install SS on my NAS?

I did not think that would work.

It all depends on the NAS device
Have a look at the tutorials section.

Hi,

Has anyone found a solution to this problem yet? I have the same issues running the Subsonic server on a WinXP machine, with all of the media files on a D-Link DNS-323 NAS. Access of media on my Android device often times out with a network error, especially when browsing through folders with many files/subfolders. Interestingly, the same files CAN be accessed using a PC and web browser, though it takes a long time for directory views to refresh.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Gerwin

P.S.: Installing Subsonic on the NAS is unfortunately not an option. It's a stand-alone device with little computing power for transcoding media.
