Various Webplayer issues

Postby Weidbrewer » Fri Nov 11, 2011 8:40 pm

I looked at a couple of the other topics with similar titles, but none of them seemed to be the same issue. If this was already started elsewhere and I missed it, I apologize.

In the car, I use the Android app, and that's been working fine...but at my desk at work and on my tablet, I tend to use the web interface, however, this week it seems to have had a nervous breakdown.

* Trying to play anything through the webplayer in Chrome on Win7 just downloads a "play.m3u" file (playlist, I believe.)
* In FireFox, if an mp3 is on my playlist already, I can play it, but I can't seem to select a song and play it (either by adding it, or clicking the play button next to it - this is new today. Yesterday, I didn't have any music issues in FF at all.)
* Again in FF, I can't play any videos - clicking play will bring up the webplayer in the interface, but some error displays. It looks like one line of random letters across the screen
* The problems all present themselves on my HP Touchpad as well. It actually happened there first, but hey, it's WebOS, so I wasn't surprised something stopped working there.

Phone app and the Perisonic Chrome plug-in both still work for music. No changes have been made to the server install, or the server itself.

Any advice? Thanks in advance!

It looks like you have inadvertently changed the player or player type.
In the web browser you have a player name next to the player controls, it would appear that it has been changed to external or external with playlist.
You need to change it back to web player via settings/players
Its a good idea to name your players eg "My Webplayer" , "My Jukebox" because playerxx does not mean too much
and you will then know if its been changed.

Thanks for the quick response. No, that is unfortunately not the issue. Sorry, when I said "Web player," I meant that literally - I am using the web player, and not one of the other settings. I double-checked mine, and logged in as some of the other users I have on there, checked theirs as well, and still had the same issue. Every player is currently set to "web player."

If you have the web player selected you should see the standard JW player controls (skin) Do you?
Only an external player option should generate a m3u playlist download. (In Chrome at least, FF will fire up your default media player)
In case the players have somehow got corrupted delete your current player or even all of them and let SS create new players.

Yes, JW controls show for videos.

I deleted all players and tried again. Nada. I restarted from the command line (This is running on Linux) and still nothing. One of the times I tried a video, it actually displayed the text differently, so it coult be read (kinda): "Video not found or access denied: ?stream?pathUtf8Hex=2f65646961..." etc.

I have not changed any permissions, so I'm not sure what's up there. Where are the log files stored in an Ubuntu installation? Maybe that would show me something.

Additional: I rebooted the whole machine, and nothing. Also, if I create a link with the "share" option, songs will play.

Additional, additional:

I found the logs. Nothing changes in them when I try to play a song - just nothing happens. When I try to play a video....wow. Here's the wall of text (sorry)

Again, I didn't knowingly change anything...I'm betting that an update borked something. It's also worth noting that this began after I started using Perisonic.

Again, thanks for the help.

What os are you running SS on?
The one thing I did pick up was
Code: Select all
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/var/subsonic/transcode/lame": java.io.IOException: error=2, No such file or directory

Can you check your transcode folder and check that lame is there.

The OS is Ubuntu.

I was about to say that lame was there...but then I noticed it was just a symlink...a broken one at that. With the exception of FFMPEG, everything in there is a broken link to files not found in my usr/bin folder.

Now, as far as the decoders go, I installed them all again - no idea how or why they got blown away - and here is my log after a restart of the service:

Can you try a mp3 and post a log.
We need to try and get mp3 playing first before we start on videos.

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

I did. Absolutely nothing happens in the interface or in the log when I try to play one. Last test was an MP3 and then the video.

Weidbrewer I started with the same symptoms as you are describing, right now I've lost access to WAN side. Your log files are almost identical to mine and in the same sequence. I did nothing to fix it it just disappeared on its own and it worked for about 4 days before losing access internally. I am also using ubuntu running 10.04 lts, did you by chance update the latest java package that came out a few days ago.

Yeah, most likely. I suspected that it was a classic Ubuntu-update-breaks-everthing. Did you figure out any way to fix it?

My issues disappeared on there own, i am at a loss for this. My system is set to auto-install security updates. I don't know if there was any other updates that i was not aware of that may have caused it. But it took about 2 days for the "play.m3u" to stop and the most recent issue of losing wan access is gone. I cant find any info in any log file that can cause this.
