HI

I cannot transcode m4a or flac using the provided transcoder. Keep getting this:

FLAC:

2011-12-15 17:46:19,961] DEBUG TranscodeInputStream - Starting transcoder: [/var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg] [-i] [/var/music/A Tribe Called Quest/Midnight Marauders/01 Phoney Rappers.flac] [-ab] [128k] [-v] [0] [-f] [mp3] [-]
[2011-12-15 17:46:19,985] WARN TranscodingService - Failed to transcode /var/music/A Tribe Called Quest/Midnight Marauders/01 Phoney Rappers.flac. Using original.
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg": java.io.IOException: error=12, Cannot allocate memory

M4A:

[2011-12-15 17:54:05,862] INFO PlaylistInputStream - admin listening to "Midnight Marauders/01 Phoney Rappers.m4a"
[2011-12-15 17:54:05,869] DEBUG TranscodeInputStream - Starting transcoder: [/var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg] [-i] [/var/music/A Tribe Called Quest/Midnight Marauders/01 Phoney Rappers.m4a] [-ab] [128k] [-v] [0] [-f] [mp3] [-]
[2011-12-15 17:54:05,906] WARN TranscodingService - Failed to transcode /var/music/A Tribe Called Quest/Midnight Marauders/01 Phoney Rappers.m4a. Using original.
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "/var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg": java.io.IOException: error=12, Cannot allocate memory

Please somebody help as its driving me bonkers. I just had the CentOS server rebuilt to address an issue with glibc not being a high enough version.

Did you try increasing the allocated memory for Java? There are numerous threads on how to increase memory for whatever platform you are on. The defaulted allotment of 100M is not nearly enough, but like some have posted, do not go too high or the service stops.. I have mine set to 768M and have had no issues.

Tried upping max-memory to 256. Still no good, still get the same error.
Thinking of ditching subsonic altogether, have never managed to get it working properly.

I've just installed subsonic on my Ubuntu 11.10 server and I have the same problem.
The solution:
For some reason the /var/subsonic/transcode/lame is not working well. You need to install the lame on your system then put a link:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install lame
sudo mv /var/subsonic/transcode/lame /var/subsonic/transcode/lame_backup
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/lame /var/subsonic/transcode/lame

That did it for me.
