Subsonic on the Kindle Fire

I have installed the Subsonic App for the Kindle fire and it works great, with one glaring problem. None of my video files play with sound. Nothing. Even the volume bar is 'greyed out.' My MP3s play just fine, so is it something unique to the Kindle and/or android OS? is this possibly a codec and/or transcoding issue? It looks like it is converting all video to FLV (be it avi, mkv, etc...).

looking into it a little further, i notice that the app launched video into their proprietary web brower, so the problem may like in that application as well.
