If you are running WHS, it is likely that port 443 is already being used by the built in Home Server web server (IIS).

Choose a different port and make sure that port is properly opened and mapped on your firewall. I usually just add 8000 to the port number but you can choose your own.

HTH,

Glenn

Hi,

I have selected port 4040 as the port number (1st line of the configuration window)

I have left "enable Port 443 as HTTPS" unticked & everything still works so I am a bit confused as to wether or not I need it....... :-)

HTTPS is only if you want a very secure connection. If you don't need a very secure connection, then you don't need to enable https, and don't need to worry about 443 at all. :D

Ah,

I see... well in my case if I select port 443 I lose my Windows Home Server remote connection so I guess I shall leave it unticked!

Cheers

DO NOT USE 443 on a WHS server machine (any flavour) - that is the standard ssl port used by IIS.
You can use any other port (I use 444 for testing) - but don't forget if upnp is not working on your router you will need to forward that port as well.
I don't bother with ssl for subsonic - if any determined hacker (or government agency) wants to break in to my server to listen to my collection of Black Sabbath albums then I say let them - although it would be easier to just ask for the guest a/c password :P

Lol, that's fair enough I suppose! but can I ask do I just set the port to 444 & click the tickbox and save? is that it? do I have to do anything else or does it change the way I connect to subsonic? (My Router is a WNDR3700 & supports UPNP)

Cheers

Yep that all but you will get a big red WARNING in the browser
This is because it uses a generic certificate - there are ways around that (search the forum) but to me its more hassle than its worth
